AnimeFest
Just got back from AnimeFest-- a relatively small con in Dallas-- tonight, after being there all weekend. Lots of fun, bought almost the complete set of the FMA pins. Very cute.

Anyways, the reason I'm posting this is because I got to meet two of the VA's for FMA: Vic Mignogna, who I'm sure everybody knows will be doing Ed, and Mike McFarland, who will be doing Havoc's voice.
Here's a couple pictures of the two sitting together at a panel; Vic's on the right, Mike's on the left: 1 2

They both seemed very nice; I can't say much of what I think of their voice acting itself since I'm not much of a fan of dubs, except that I rather liked Vic's voice as Gawl in Generator Gawl. One of the few dubs I don't mind. A friend who was in line for autographs a little bit behind me asked Vic to do his Ed voice, but all she could say about it was that 'it seemed nice,' which doesn't help much. He did mention something about how he had wanted to make Ed's voice higher, but the Japanese side of the pond-- who have apparently taken a great deal of interest in the choice of VA's for the dub-- told him they didn't want it that high.

Another thing he mentioned is that he's actually a really big fan of FMA-- he said it's the first show he's worked on that he's actually watched all the way through before hand, and researched a lot about. Mike also seemed to really like the show. That's pretty reassuring to me, at least-- hopefully they'll take extra care to make it really good.

Anyways, that's about all I have to say-- except that they're now selling sets of WINRY TOOLS-- yes, little tools that are supposedly like the ones Winry uses. This disturbs me.

Oh! and I also have a really cool towel now, with Havoc, Roy and Hughes. *huggles it*

*EDIT* Forgot to post the FMA cosplayer pictures. Not many of them, just Ed & WInry, and a different Winry. There were lots of people in the military outfits this year though, and several Ed's that I didn't get pictures of.

Re: FUNimation VA's
If you want to get more insight into the characters, one thing you could do is read the manga (if you haven't already). It's available in English up through the current chapter online in various places.
The anime is pretty true to the manga up until, say, episode 25 or so, but even afterwards, when things start taking off in completely different directions, the anime does tend to take just entire scenes from the manga and plop them right in the middle of a totally different setting. And you do get to see interesting facets of a lot of the characters-- Roy especially!-- that don't show up in the anime.

But yeah, mining the fans for information is a great idea-- we tend to have too much time on our hands (or we don't, but make time anyway--says the person who should really be doing homework right now) and have great fun analyzing the characters. Especially the fanfiction authors, because we/they have to be able to get into the characters minds really well in order to write about them.

Personally, I've seen up through episode 35 or so, but will be catching up as soon as we all can make time. I stopped watching over the summer because a group of friends and I here at school all watch it together, and I felt bad watching the eps when they couldn't.
Hughes' death is one of the most powerful scenes in both the anime and the manga-- I'm not at all surprised that you reacted like that. I *never* cry at TV shows, and yet even now I get teary-eyed when I think about it. Especially poor Alicia. ;_; *points up at current icon*

Re: FUNimation VA's
I understand, believe me-- it always twists my heart whenever I see it, and I've been using it for months now!
Love your icon, too! Roy's so great. *is wearing her Roy pin at this very moment, even*

Re: FUNimation VA's
I think I'm growing to love Hughes more than Roy. o_O I shock myself sometimes. >_<;;;;

Ooooh... a Roy pin??? What's it look like?

Re: FUNimation VA's
It's him standing there about to snap his fingers, looking intensely smug, of course. What did you expect? ;P (okay, found a picture here. I own all of those. :D)

But the Hughes pin is OMG SO CUUUUTE XDD! He's holding a picture and making a kissy face at it and there's this little heart, and you can just *hear* the sound effect going 'chu!' ;_; Couldn't find a picture of it, though...
