Edited DVDs?
Apologies if this topic is not favourable.
I have a friend who is a manager at a pretty reputable anime/comic shop (they attend cons, mainly AWA) and they had spoken with a FUNi representative who claimed that the Fullmetal DVDs will be edited to tone down "extreme violence and blood."

I merely make this post because I could have sworn that I read somewhere that FUNi was NOT going to edit or cut the DVD releases in any way for any reason (and because this would be the first time that I doubt their sources). Can anyone confirm or deny this?

I'd sincerely doubt that... violence-wise, FMA is hardly any worse than a lot of other animes I've seen that WEREN'T edited at all.

I really doubt it. They were probably referring to when it airs on Adult Swim.

I heard the same thing from a anime news page, bu it concerned the anime on CN, rather than the DVD's. I wasn't sure, so I didn't say anything... I guess we'll have to wait until January to find out.

I thought they might have been referring to the Adult Swim version as well. They had asked too, to be sure, and the representative had said they were indeed referring to the DVD releases.

But as Luna said, why they would edit out the violence and such when there are far more violent series out there is beyond me. Someone probably got their information wrong somewhere.

They gonna show it on Adult Swim so less kids watch it since they'll be sleeping.

Haha, America's so funny sometimes. I remember they removed a Pokemon episode due to James having a clevage.

I have the whole episode. I was severely disappointed when WB hyped about "THE LOST EPISODE", and showed it with that scene removed. =(

They also removed an scene where Gary was doing "things" with his cheerleaders.

I don't see why they would edit it. Sure there's blood but it's not like it's everywhere. In fact there's only a few scenes which I could consider minorly gory (Like when Scar makes Nina go boom)

I also don't see why they would edit it for Adult Swim either besides the openings and closings parts. They show more blood in a single episode of Aqua Teen Hunger Force than they ever show in FMA. If they do edit, I would think it would only be minor.

Adult Swim aren't the editors of the anime. The companies edit them to meet certain TV standards.

I'm sure if it was up to Adult Swim, they'd air the uneditted versions.

I know they aren't the editors of the anime. I'm saying, "Why would Funimation edit out gore if it was for Adult Swim? They'd be able to show it practically uncut"

I also heard they weren't going to edit the DVDs. Dangit...Oh well...

I suspect it'll be like the Dragon Ball Z or Yu Yu Hakusho DVDs, wherein there are both Edited DVDs and non-edited DVDs. I mean, Funimation is actually one of the few companies that actually 'get it' as far as fan feedback is concerned. Heck, this is the company that's getting yu-gi-oh and Shaman King uncut releases on DVD after outcry over the fact that 4kids didn't want it to happen, initially. If funimation is going to go to bat over an uncut version of yu-gi-oh, there's not doubt in my mind that we'll get an uncut version of Fullmetal. :)

Ah, I did not mean for everyone to take it so seriously. This is simply what I have heard (unfortunately from a reputable source), but I have also heard that they would NOT edit the DVDs.
If they do end up editing down some of the blood, then it's not too bad. A friend of mine pointed out that somewhere in a thread on adultswim.com that yet another FUNi representative said the DVDs would remain uncut while ONLY the AS version will be cut.
I'm just hearing two different things from two different sources and it's just driving me nuts.

Why would they edit it for Adult Swim? Wolf's Rain is just as violent, even moreso at times and it runs unedited. Editing is only for Toonami. I sincerely hope that this rumor is false. Though, I'm positive they won't alter the DVDs because the would be pointless. People pay for unedited stuff, otherwise they would just watch the tv versions.

FUNimation editing
Sorry, had to stop in to this last one. I'm the guy who's playing Mustang at Funi. They are taking the same approach as they did on Yu yu hakusho, because the exec's at Square Enix have such a heavy hand in this one. They will release on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim a little "touched up" because obviously you just cant show them in their original form. But the DVD's WILL feature a EDITED, UNEDITED ENGLISH, and UNEDITED JAPANESE version for the hardcore fans with nothing scrubbed and the lines translated a little harsher. I hope that made everybodies day - so if it sucks on Cartoon Network, screw it... just wait for the release on DVD.

somehow I always knew we had Funi spies lurking these communities.
