the clappy thing

When Wrath breaks off Edward's automail hand, he's still able to transmutate. Supposedly, he needs both hands to make a circle for transmutation. Perhaps he's had the potential for telekinetic transmutation (like Dante and Hohenheim) all along.

The hand part isnt important, they use their hands to form a circle, or closed circuit. He made a circle with his hand and stump. When you see the truth you learn "everything" so your brain becomes the actual shapes or code in the circle, and your hands/arms becoming the circle.

Also Dante creates a circle by "clapping" as well, but she's not as dramatic, she just puts her hands together and focuses. Her hands are still together forming a circle, shes just lacking the flair of Edward and Izumi with the clapping. Also it could be said she doesn't need to use the "Psych-up" of the clap to get them jump started.

it might be because his arm and leg is within reach of his whole body.
potential grown stronger by all of his self.

Actually my Pizza Hut icon is based offa RPG like setting (( comedy mind you)) where Envy did his disguise and went as Edward Elric to a pizza place and ordered ALL these pizzas, and put them on the military Tab and walked out with them.

My personal opinion is that you don't need to even use both hands to do the clappy-thing. After all, if you only need to form a circle through which to cycle energy, an 'o' formed by your hand should work just as well as hoenheim's slow clap or Dantyla's prayer-thingy, or the elric/izumi clap. Heck, if all you need to do is form a circle about which to cycle energy (or whatever), you could transmutate things with your feet!
angsty lemon ukewabisuke on September 2nd, 2004 10:10 am (UTC)
so in theory, Ed SHOULD have been able to still do his transmutation after Scar made Ed's automail explode because he could have made a complete circle with his shoulder or foot?

Envy observes, when talking to Wrath, "You can do alchemy by making a circle with your right arm and left leg," but since I haven't seen Wrath actually do that, not sure what Envy was talking about that, except that it's definitely the Ed limbs that lets Wrath do alchemy.

At any rate, I think the clappy thing is, as observed, more psychological than anything else. Maybe if he studied and trained hard for it, Ed would not need both hands to clap, but give him a break. He's only been doing this for four years, and he's been very busy that whole time. xp
skeptischlelldorin on September 2nd, 2004 01:34 pm (UTC)
Yeah. But it's perfectly sensible that he DIDN'T, because he probably doesn't realize that any circle will do...
