The Elric's Hometown
I forgot about this, but my friend, Nightstallion, pointed out that the correct spell of the Elric's home town should be "Riesenburg."

Why? 'Cause "Riesenburg" is a German word meaning "Giant's Castle."

And we all know how HAGAREN loves German words ("Hohenheim," "Führer").

So, yeah, and stuffs. o.o;

o_O; A lot of fan-subs spelt it differently. Each of them were different spelling. Ehh. :o But that's very interesting - what you found.

Are you certain of that...?^^;
I have a postcard that says "Risenbourg", but I've seen posters and multiple other merchandise with the "Resembool" spelling. The way that the name is said doesn't seem to indicate that it ends with a "g" sort of sound. I believe it's spelled "Re-ze-n-buu-ru", but I'm only going by memory on that.

And because all the merchandise is official, it kills me that I can't figure out the true spelling of the name since they haven't made up their minds, either. XD

*still loving Al being described as a "suit of mail"* ^_^

Hmmm. I was always confused as to what the areas name was. Different subs kind of got me confused. I guess I eventually got to the point where I didn't really care to know what it was called. I always thought it ended with and l or something though. Rizenpool or Rizenbull etc..

- On the letter that Edward sent, that Roy displays in Ep 3, it is spelled "Resembool" (probably ... Ed's handwriting isn't exceptional even when he's using his right hand. It could be "resembul" but probably not) Admittedly, Ed could just be a lousy speller.

- In the 3rd ED, in the text behind Winry and Den, it's spelled "Risenbourg" but it's only in there once so you have to be an obsessive prick like me to spot it.

- On a poster I have hanging in my cubicle at work, it's spelled in an entirely different way, but I don't recall offhand what that way is and I'm not exactly in a position right now to check. I can on Monday, but by then I'll have forgotten.

Given this schizophrenia of canon, I personally don't give a shit how people spell the thing :) I personally prefer Risenbourg, because it shares the benefits of being canon, looking cool, and being halfway-logical.

Hohenheim mean "High Home" and Fuhrer mean "leader". O_o Ed's dad isn't a house.. High...? Yes, he tall.. O_o *wondering why the author name him Hohenheim*

Well...the way Riesenbourg is spelt when romanized and pronounced in japanese, it makes it sound like a french pronounciation. In french we don't have a 'g' sound either (well by combining 'gu' + a vowel you get it but in most 'g'-starting words, g isn't like the english one) so words like 'Faubourg' or 'Riesenbourg' are like 'Foh-boo-re' and 'Ree-sen-boo-re' and not 'Foh-burg' or 'Ree-sen-burg'. ^_^

The advantage to knowing french as a first language (as well as english)...mwahahah...(*goes of to write up theory regarding the localization of the FMA...*)

Maybe it's just that the first episodes I got spelled it Rizenbul, and I've always stuck with that. However:

The language hall at my college is called "Oldenborg," and whenever the native Japanese speakers refer to it, they never fail to include the final -gu sound. Since there's none there in the anime, I don't think one can jump to the conclusion that the name 'ought to be' Risenbourg.

To be honest, I think that the people who write this stuff down spell it all sorts of schizophrenic ways because they don't actually speak English. ^^; It's the reason they spell Hughes name as "Maes" when given the pronunciation, it's pretty clearly Maas or Mars. I suspect that they don't really know how english letters are pronounceed.
