hello and questions
I'm here because lazulisong is an evil, evil person. Which is, of course, why we luv her. I write, and ordinarily I'd say hello with fic, but...yeah, the DVD came with the complimentary Bunny Package, but some joker filled it with Epic!Bunnies rather than the expected RandomSmut! and Humor!Bunnies. *curses at length* And so far I've seen the scanlations and the first 13 eppies, am downloading the 14th, and won't be able to pick up my tanks until Tuesday. (Which won't really be much help, as my translation skills are as pathetic as an overabundance of language dictionaries will allow...) And I have a four-day weekend between then and now to do nothing but write.

Sooooo...I'm here to beg and whine for canon help. *big eyes*

First--do we ever learn anything more about the surrounding countries? Heck, is there a map somewhere? *grins* For that matter...what is the name of the country? I'm sure it's been mentioned and my brain is refusing to see it, argh. (11 hours of sleep in 3 days will do this to you...and possibly explains the bunnies as well...) Um, see, someone declared war while I was trying to catch a nap, and I just need to know how much room I have to make stuff up in or if they've made it easy on me and I can pick some lucky country from a list, heh...

And second--is it just me? is it just the anime? or do they mean to imply that alchemists tend to specialize in certain transmutations? Obviously Ed can do pretty much anything he sets his mind to...but do we ever see Roy trasmute anything that doesn't involve setting it on fire? I just noticed this because the impostor kid (Forrester...*groan!*...god, I love the puns in this thing...) seemed to have a knack with plants, and Bad Mister Tucker No! no! do not make plastic surgery jokes! seemed to have the animal kingdom sewn up (*thwaps self*), and of course there's Roy with his prettypretty explody stuff...*grins* So, what, is that just for effect in the anime, or do people really have, er, selective talent? Just curious, more than anything...

Okay, shutting up now...and thanks in advance!

Forrester? Hmmm, my subs had "Fletcher". Will need to listen to that one again - it's not a story from the manga so can't look up the spelling...such as it is...

Can't help you on country names, but it's definitely implied that alchemists have specialties. Not sure why, if this is due to natural talent or what one chooses to study, or some other factor. And Ed, as the "fullmetal" implies, seems to have a tendency to gravitate toward metal and earth manipulation, tho' he pretty much seems to be able to do whatever he wants if he puts his mind to it. Roy's specialty is apparently air manipulation - he doesn't make fire, he just shifts oxygen around to make it burn better ^^

This might be explained in more detail in the manga, not sure...my own nihongo skillz (or lack thereof) sound about on par with yours. Fortunately the grammar isn't as hard as the vocab, for the most part...not much in the way of outrageous accents or slang in what I've gone thru ^^;

Its Fletcher...
and Russel? I believe.

As for the worl I don't have that but I have the names of most of the cities the story takes place in...there's a partial map in the Perfect Guide that show's the East 'world' and part of the south...

As for abilities...Ed and Al do whatever they damn well please...plants, metal...its all good. Everyone else in the mangaka seems to be limited.

Re: Its Fletcher...
*rewatches* Ah! You're totally right about the name (which doesn't make any of the other puns any less gratuitous, snerk...but at least that's one less to make me howl and wake the neighbors!)...now I'm going to have to go figure out what it was I read/watched that had a Forrester. *bah* Because I know there was one, since I was making Gump jokes at the screen...

But I digress! Would kill for a list of names. Would commit acts for a copy of that map...

If anybody with a Perfect Guide also has a scanner, I would love you forever. And also write you a snip of your choice! *believes in bribery* Ask anybody--I'm easy. Failing that, how would one go about getting a copy of the Perfect Guide? Sasuga didn't seem to have it, since I would definitely have gotten it if I'd seen it two days ago...of course, with an ISBN, they'll probably order it anyway... *has done this* *loves Sasuga*

Thanks, guys!

Re: Its Fletcher...
Ooooh, desperate. Desperate. If you happen to notice another copy, I'll send you a check, chocolate, and my theoretical firstborn! Stupid computer is currently refusing to play nice when it comes to copying and pasting Japanese characters, bah...so I'm having a wee bit of trouble ordering it...so whines a shameless merchandise whore...

And I'd still love to know what the country itself is called, heh...

Re: Its Fletcher...
Just use ISBNs. Or click on the links at this page.

there a map somewhere
the only one I have now in detail is the one that shows the eastern 'world' and part of the south...

As for the transmutation...everyone seems to specialize in their own thing except Ed and Al...they seem to do whatever they damn well want *grins*...

anything else?
sakurak on January 14th, 2004 08:00 pm (UTC)
There's a pretty basic "world map" shown in the Perfect Guide. But I get the impression it was in one of the manga volumes and central, south, and east area were blown up for the guide.
ciceqi on January 14th, 2004 08:25 pm (UTC)
Ahhh...so you mean that if I wait until Tuesday, I'm going to get maps whether I meant to or not? *eyes UPS boy, who's alredy terrified of me* Okay...I can live with that! I'll just...be vague until then. And then pester people to tell me what that saaaaaaaays after I get 'em home! *grins* Have scanner, will irritate.
