I apologize- The links used to work, but my entire journal/profile got screwed up somehow. (I couldn't even get to this post without logging off and taking the long way around.) I'm trying to contact lj about this, but I can't even get to their pages to see what's wrong.

You mean here, right? :3

#15 is so great, bahaha.

My journal got messed up somehow... The link was good, but when I got up this morning my whole account was one big error screen. (very frustrating...) But the link in the post should be fixed now.

I have to say I do love 15 xD

Ur wlcm. :D Me, too! 1st anime + CoS = awzumsauce. :D
Lauren: Allost_is_there on September 25th, 2011 09:04 pm (UTC)
*fist pump* I'm so glad that someone else actually agrees! It's so hard to find someone in this fandom who doesn't spend their days dissing the 2003 series! haha
miss_auto1621: somewheremiss_auto1621 on September 25th, 2011 09:16 pm (UTC)
*fist pumps back* Why would I diss it? It's the reason why I love FMA in the 1st place. It would be blasphemous to reject the very thing that I love. And I don't really get why a lot of people dislike the 2003 series. I mean, Brotherhood is awzum, but if you think about it, it's just the manga in action. I feel that Bones had a good reason from deviated from the manga's plot. And the outcome was actually enjoyable. It opened many doors to our imagination. :D
Laurenlost_is_there on September 25th, 2011 09:53 pm (UTC)
Totally! I prefer the manga over Brotherhood- I think they could have put a whole lot more effort into it. But again, that's just me. The first anime was the first anime I ever watched- It got me passionately into drawing, and I've become so much of a better artist because of it. In addition, some of my favorite characters *points at Lust icon haha* were completely different in Brotherhood in ways that I didn't like.
miss_auto1621: powerpuff fullmetal alchemistmiss_auto1621 on September 25th, 2011 11:18 pm (UTC)
Me, too. Even if it follows the manga, it still has its differences. So, manga over FMAB here as well. That's why I always put 'post manga' in my fics XD. Yes, but then fans would have started to complain: "I thought it followed the manga", "They're doing the same thing as the 1st one", yaddayaddayadda. The art is great, but I'm against it because it makes Ed look less...hot. 1st anime Ed is adorable! Wow! That's awzumsauce to hear. It brought out that talent in you! XD The 1st anime got me started as an author. It was the very first show that actually hooked me (is writing a few days after watching the 1st episode hooked?), so I owe most of my 160+ fics to FMA1. B really changed some characters around, which I agree, I really enjoyed Lust's character. One of my favorite characters is Greed and I cried like a baby when he died, even if he kidnapped Al. The production and actors did a wonderful job. The way he died in Brotherhood was...very peculiar. Father burned his own son. That's cool, but harsh and Ed killing Greed is a lot more heart wrenching. :D
Laurenlost_is_there on September 25th, 2011 11:40 pm (UTC)
Haha yes usually I just refer to them as "the anime" and "the manga," just leaving Brotherhood out xD Funny- that's always the only argument I get when someone freaks out at me for not liking Brotherhood: "IT'S THE REAL STORY!!!11!!11ONE!!" -_-;
Ah, yes, Greed's death. That's an AWESOME scene in the anime. Ed just... breaks down, and as horrible as it was, it was really cool to see, if you know what I mean.
Oh- and you're right, Ed's a lot less good-looking in Brotherhood haha. (Along with everyone else... *The Scar fangirl weeps*)
miss_auto1621miss_auto1621 on September 26th, 2011 12:08 am (UTC)
With my friends, I have to differentiate with manga, 1st anime and Brotherhood. I get dizzy just thinking about it. Me, too! I think I argue about it more than with EdxWinry arguments XD. And I hate it when people start to complain like that! We get it! It's the real story...so what?! ^-^U Finally, I have someone that understands my point of view. The 1st anime is just as beautiful as the manga. It made me cry a lot more than the manga, I'll tell you that. And for one thing, I liked the ending. For once, a show doesn't have a true happy ending. I love it. It's so original and Bones had major guts for doing the stuff it did with the FMA characters. That's courage right there. I mean, I love Arakawa's ending and it was very much amazing (and I cried and squealed for weeks [I'm still squealing about it]), but Ed died...twice.
I know! I love Vic's work! Ed just sounds so real and it's so moving. Yes! I KNOW!!! Starting with AL. 1st anime Al= way better. Well, for everyone. Mustang *drools*, Hohenheim *blinks*, Winry *blinks*, OH, Pinako and Gracia, too!!
Lauren: Roy Mustanglost_is_there on September 26th, 2011 12:39 am (UTC)
YES! I, unlike seemingly everyone else, loved the ending to the anime- it was a series based on sacrifice, and it tied nicely into the equivalent exchange theory- because, in a sense, the equation didn't balance out in the manga- they got their bodies back, but they lost nothing but Ed's alchemy. That's hardly equivalent to their transgressions. In the anime, they got what they set out for, but in the process, they lost everyone else about whom they cared. THAT'S truly what equivalent exchange is about- be careful what you wish for. Of course, my own pairing preferences don't help with my opinion of the manga ending, either. Although I do recognize it as canon, I'm not a big EdxWinry fan at all, really. I never really get into couples involving younger characters for some reason.
And I totally agree with you on Al and Mustang- especially Mustang. I'm not a big fan of him, and I think he's really overrated, but he's WAY better looking in the first anime. And let's not forget how horrifying Brotherhood Lust was... Her mouth was bigger than her FACE. xD That was definitely NOT the manga style!
miss_auto1621: somewheremiss_auto1621 on September 26th, 2011 01:05 am (UTC)
I like the fact that the movie was a great addition to the end, even if everyone bashes it. I don't get why this happens. Could they truly be fans of FMA? You're right. I thought that well, okay, if Ed gave up his ability to use alchemy, then it must weight a lot, right? But it seems very...shallow? Well, it's not so deep as the ending of the 1st anime. The 1st anime included a hefty amount of sacrifice: Ed loses most of what he has, but at least he has his brother by the end of CoS *cries for edxwinry*. I mean, how much does alchemic ability really weigh? I've been thinking about it for a while now. *thinks of story ideas*. The story is very hypnotic. That's cool. I like EdxWinry because of the youtube videos I saw when I started watching FMA in '07. I was really into EdxOC, but then, that changed after a couple of weeks. I wouldn't have liked EdxWinry, I think I wouldn't like any of the pairings.
I know. They have nicer faces and I want to pull Mustang's cheeks for some reason in the 1st anime. I KNOW. She had huge EVERYTHING. I was really disturbed. In the manga, the only things she has big are her boobs, but her lips and the rest of her are proportioned. And 1st anime Lust is entrancing. I like the fact that she's very much human, even if she's not. I do like the new characters, like Ling, Ran Fan, Fu, and Olivier Armstrong, but to some extent. I admit the artwork for Brotherhood is exaggerated.
Laurenlost_is_there on September 26th, 2011 01:54 am (UTC)
Haha yah The lack of a happy EdxWinry ending is often the reason I hear for disliking the movie, which I think has its merits. Even though in the OVA it's obvious that Ed and alter!Winry got together, it's not the same. If I were an EdWin fan? I probably would have been pissed! XD I really wasn't into romance in stories at all before FMA, because it was always the same old crap. But the FMA pairings are... so unconventional!~ I love them! xD
They do have nicer faces- the 1st anime's style is a lot truer to human anatomy than BH. And it's a LOT harder to draw, since it's so much less cartoony. (Take it from someone who's done both.) THANK YOU. Brotherhood Lust looked just plain ridiculous. Her 1st anime rendition is, like you said, entrancing. And it's interesting, because she actually looks like she could actually be Arabian if she weren't so pale. (which makes sense, given her 1st anime background.) I love how human she really is, especially as evident as it becomes towards the end of the series. People rarely think too deeply about her, but there's actually a lot going on in her head to explore.
I do like Olivier Armstrong- I really wanted her to find out that it had actually been Izumi who had been stealing from the storehouses in Briggs XD They're both so awesome. I'm not really a big fan of the Xingese characters, though. Characters who submit themselves just because of another character's status don't tend to do much for me, and I guess the whole concept of Xing just didn't sit well with me. Lan Fan and May willing to kill one another just because they're in the same medical clinic? I realize that it was a cultural thing, BUT...
Yes as far as I see, everyone just has bigger everything in Brotherhood... eyes, boobs, muscles... Though I guess that's more so the change in anime between now and then. They'll do anything for a boob shot nowadays, and it's depressing that that's where anime seems to be coming to.
miss_auto1621: somewheremiss_auto1621 on October 3rd, 2011 04:16 am (UTC)
Well, the sad EdxWinry ending is what fueled most of my fics, so I disagree with the rest of the people that dislike it. I think that somehow Winry crosses over to the other side. I mean, I feel like Ed would not marry alter!Winry, even if she looks like Winry because it's not her. So I hypothesize that Winry is with him on the other side. The result: the cutie pie kids in the OVA. I know how it is, don't worry. I wasn't really into romance either before stumbling upon FMA. Yes, they are VERY unconventional, especially EdxWinry. But they are all very enjoyable and humorous. XD I know. I've tried drawing FMA and the only success I've had is with Ed and Al. The rest were epic failures! You're welcome! INORITE? Lust is actually pretty in the 1st anime, especially in her human form. In BH, I'm scared of her. She makes me shudder. I've never really considered writing about Lust, but I've had her in my mind and heart because of what she did. She and Greed (and distantly Wrath) were the only homunculi that helped Ed, so I've been meaning to include them, if possible, in one of my fics. They deserve that honor. :D
That would have been VERY comical, but would she have helped Izumi in the end, just because of her survival method? I love them because they make a really comical and saucy team! I like the Xingese characters because of Ling, primarily. I don't really like Mei because she's like a little fan girl and she kind of annoys me, but I like her appearance because she looks adorable and tiny. But oh well, right?
I don't like it that they're starting to make everything bishojo/bishonen. It IS sad. I mean, Ed's muscles were huge in like Episode 60 (or when he was fighting Pride); Al's armor is bulkier; Winry looks way too skinny (at least in the 1st anime she had beefy arms that demonstrated her manual labor); Lust...we know that one; Mustang's, Hawkeye's, Envy's; and practically EVERYONE's eyes annoy me. I really like the 1st anime art better. Uh...sorry for answering like a week after this. Too many exams and homework. DX
Lauren: FANGIRLS!!lost_is_there on October 3rd, 2011 11:38 pm (UTC)
Yah I really would love to think that Winry miraculously got over there... It didn't bother me, like I said, until I saw Kids, and was kinda miffed that Ed would have gotten with alter!Winry instead... It just doesn't sit right with me. Maybe I'll post some of my FMA fan art at some point... I draw so often, that I advance really quickly and hate a drawing that I did, say, two months ago XD THANK YOU! BH Lust is terrifying! And you really should consider writing her- there's a LOT to think about/analyse, and I'm still not quite sure why people don't write her more often, to be honest. Her struggles with humanity/emotions toward the end of the series are so fascinating. (for me, anyway)
Yah Mei was like a fangirl... And I'm not the kind to tolerate rabbid fangirls... I have to hand it to Ling and Lanfan, though- it was hilarious when they appeared in Ed's hotel room eating food with his tab XD
Yah!!! Ed's Armstrong-sized, (well, not quite, but you get what I mean.) and Al's armor DOES look fat for some reason. The first anime's art is more professional and artistically successful.
Meh it's no problem- I SHOULD be working on homework right now, but... The internet is waaaay better haha, and I don't mind late responses.
miss_auto1621: processingmiss_auto1621 on October 10th, 2011 06:06 pm (UTC)
*nods head* It's logical, in a way. *shakes head cartoonishly* Yep, Ed would never let a woman suffer just because she looks like Winry. Can you imainge him comparing alter!Winry with his Winry in his head? I don't think he could live with himself. When you do post it, tell me so I can fangirl over it!! Aw, but I'm sure we'll all love it if we see it on here. :) Ur wlcm. ^-^ I have ideas about her, but I've been trying to figure out how to tie her into my plots. She is fascinating. If anything, her confusion is what reached out to me. 'What do I do? Should I help them?' She was conscious of the fact that Dante wouldn't turn them into humans, so her actions made her one of my favorite characters. I hold that respect for Lust. :D
Well, her english voice actress annoys me. Her voice is really shrilly. And I didn't realize she was a fangirl until my friend, Mird, pointed it out to me. But sometimes Mei's thoughts are comical, like how she imagined Ed and Al as her prince(s). Her imagination was spot on. XD
YES!! I like their humor and although Ling may act stupid at times, he's really analytical and observant. AND he was mixed with Greed, so yeah, he was instantly loved my me when they were merged. *^-^*
Those were huge muscles! Yes, it does. The 1st anime art is better by 100x.
Okay, thanks. I procrastinate as well and I am disregarding my homework after I get home today from my dr.'s appointment. XD I know how you feel. Internet first, hw later. It's a priority and we must fulfill the internet's wants. XD
Laurenlost_is_there on October 10th, 2011 11:58 pm (UTC)
Lust really is fascinating. She's probably my favorite character of any story I've ever read/watched/played, simply because she's so fascinating. She starts as what seems to be a typical antagonist, but develops into so much more, and I personally don't think fandom does her any justice, because she really does have so much depth- her struggles with emotions and her returning memories, her loyalty conflict with Dante, her (brief) interaction with Scar, and her conversations with Edward... They all reveal so clearly that there's a lot going on in her head that's never explored fully.
Ugh yes- Mei's English voice is definitely a "cliche supposed to be cute anime girl" voice. But you're right- it's very funny when she's thinking about Prince Ed and Al. XD
miss_auto1621: somewheremiss_auto1621 on October 12th, 2011 03:32 am (UTC)
*nods* She's complicated, XD, but that's what makes her enjoyable. I like the way she develops, too. It's not the usual bad guy that follows orders and wants to kill Ed and Al. In Brotherhood, or in the manga (I'm sad to say), makes her heartless. She tries killing Mustang and Havoc, and after thinking they were dead, she tries killing Riza. I mean, the scenes were so badass, but the way she died...that's just degrading to her character. In the 1st anime, she died in a, sorta heroic way, helping Ed. But Wrath killed her and it made me very upset. She, in fact, is a very thoughtful person...uh, homunculus? I liked the fact that Scar tried defending her from the bullets that were aimed at her. I personally love the way she helps Ed, totally mysterious and abrupt. And Ed was so angry, it looked awzum. ^-^U

T_T She's the only character that I enjoy listening to in Japanese instead of English. XD I appreciate her fangirliness. And the way she yelled "Please don't die!" when Ed was fighting Father. C'mon, Mei, don't doubt Ed! >_< Who else is funny? ...I like Madam Christmas. Or, Chris Mustang. XD
Laurenlost_is_there on October 12th, 2011 04:28 pm (UTC)
Exactly! I really missed her depth in the manga T_T She was just another bad guy there. And your right, her manga death was very degrading... Her anime death really showed her at peace, and she didn't really mind it. They didn't even really show Wrath actually landing the final blow, they just implied it. In the manga/BH, you get every nitty gritty detail and it makes me cringe every time I read/watch it. She really was more thoughtful than she gets credit for- for example, she was genuinely concerned when Scar was shot- and concern for anyone but herself, especially a human, would be something her manga self (or even her 2003 self earlier in the series) would have been disgusted by. Looking back now, I'm not surprised at all that she chose to side with Ed, given recent events and revelations, but I was quite surprised when I first watched it.

Madam Christmas is hysterical... I love her. XD She's one of those characters that makes you look up at the sky to try to figure out what just fell on your head, like Garfiel.
miss_auto1621: Hothothothothothotmiss_auto1621 on October 20th, 2011 01:07 am (UTC)
Lust is an admirable character. Now, I want to write about her, but I need to focus my ideas first. Separate and analyze. :) Of the animes I've watched, I have yet to see another Lust character type. She's THAT cool. XD I was very surprised at how she was when I first watch the series, too, because she was one of the antagonists. A bad guy does not help the good guys. But I feel like she did a good deed. Her helping Ed was something that really inspired me to enjoy the anime even more. :D

I love her, too! She's fluffy!! She's one of the characters that would intimidate me if I had her right in front of me. XP Garfield!! I adore him to death! He's so enjoyable *sparkles*.
Laurenlost_is_there on October 20th, 2011 04:46 am (UTC)
Exactly!! (This conversation is making me so happy...) She's a very unique character and is one of the (very) few that I will eat up every little bit fandom has to offer, because there is just so much about her to explore that is almost always ignored. The first anime was much less clear-cut as to who the "bad guys" were. Lust isn't the only example. (though she might be the best example, if not Scar) Wrath, who was really in the wrong place at the wrong time, Sloth, who was confused about her returning maternal instinct and was just trying to make the pain stop, even Envy, who was the product of Dante's 400 years of malice rather than his own selfishness. When the series began, I thought Scar was a huge jerk. But by the end, he gave his life and the philosopher's stone that was all that was left of his brother to save Alphonse. He was unimaginably brave, and just broken and confused from all the losses he faced in his early life. (Not to try to excuse his murders, those have no excuse) The only "static" bad guys were really Archer and Kimbley. Even Dante had motivations. Sure, she was totally off her rocker, but she had an interesting story that was actually relevant to everything else.

Oh, Garfield~~ I'm not even sure what Arakawa was GOING for with him, but whatever it was, she nailed it.
miss_auto1621: Hothothothothothotmiss_auto1621 on October 22nd, 2011 06:05 pm (UTC)
Yay for happiness!! Yesh. *nods head* I think Wrath would have made a great ally to Ed and Al if he wouldn't have been persuaded, or influenced by Envy. It would have been a really electric relationship between Ed and Wrath, but he would have been an advantage. I pity the Homunculi in general. Poor Envy, locked in all his anger toward Hohenheim and Ed, making him very bitter and...envious! I don't hate them (in the 1st anime) because of all the hurt inside them. The way I see it is that they were persuaded by the wrong person. Sure, Envy was psychotic, but he was that way because he felt that Hohenheim left him because he didn't love him. He should have seen that it wasn't true because he left Ed & Al and he still loved them. I love the way Sloth and Wrath were just so confused. And Lust, too. I like Scar in both anim and manga because of his change of methods for reaching his goal. I loathe Archer with all my heart, but love GreedLing :). If you think about it, they have the same voice actor. ^-^U Kimblee is a real pain, but I love him for pointing out the truth to Pride at the end of the manga. That made me love him forever! Because of him, Pride didn't become Ed. I really hate his ass in the anime, though, for turning Al into a bomb. Dante...is just a really...hm, selfish? She just wanted immortality and the stone to herself. And she killed Hohenheim and Ed!

He makes me giggle, like a lot. Arakawa and her never ending imagination. I must use that imagination for my challenge now!!
Laurenlost_is_there on October 22nd, 2011 06:46 pm (UTC)
Exactly- If someone else had brought up the 2003 homunculi, they would have been much different people. But Dante forced them to drown out their human traits to essentially become her slaves.
Anime-Kimbley is a complete ass. There's nothing likable about him at all. He killed so many people just for fun. And when you break it down, he's the reason Scar (one of my favorite characters) died.
Dante IS selfish to no end. She's also completely off her rocker. She let her feeling of abandonment towards Hohenheim stew for 400 years, and it left her totally wacked out.
