does anyone have a transcription of the dialogue that's at the beginning of every ep? The bit said by Al while the photos are showing just before the OP? I'd get it myself, but my vid card's a bit screwy right now, so I kinda can't.

If anyone can do me a favor I'll um... Make you an icon of a character of your choice! Yus, that's what I'll do. But it's first come first serve.

Different fansubs translate it different ways. I can't remember which group's version this is from, but it's the translation I liked best:

A person cannot gain something without losing something. To obtain something you need something of equal value. This is the law of conservation in alchemy. At the time we believed that to be the truth of the world.

If you want it in straight Japanese, I can't help you there. ^^;

thanks! If you want it, just tell me what character and any text, and I'll make you your icon.

That would be pretty cool, as I'm not that good with icons myself (I can crop and resize and...uh...yeah), and I've been wanting a nice one of Riza Hawkeye. I don't have a text preference...textless is fine, or if you have something cool you think of...I leave it to your artistic license.

Thank you very much. ^__^

Here is the Spoons version:

"People cannot gain anything without sacrificing something. You must present something of equal value to gain something. That is the principle of equivalent trade in alchemy. We believed that was the truth of the world when we were young."

Either way is correct. Just go with which ever version you like best! ^^

No, no, you don't have to make me an icon. I'm happy to have found the information for you! ^^

This is the Spoon translation (and my personal favorite):

People cannot gain anything without sacrificing something. You must present something of equal value to gain something. That is the priciple of equivalent trade in alchemy. We believed that was the truth of the world when we were young.

And here, as closely as I can make out, is the direct Japanese quote.

Hito wa nani ka no ge seinashi ni nani mo eru koto wa dekinai.
Nani ka o eru tame ni wa toutou no daika ga hitsu you ni naru.
Sore ga renkinjutsu ni okeru touka koukan no gensoku da.
Sono koro bokura wa sore ga sekai no shinjitsu datto shinjiteita.

This is based purely on what I hear, but I'm pretty sure it's accurate. Hope this helps!

Oky, well, looks like I was beaten to the Spoon translation. Oh well.

Someone transcribed it on the AnimeSuki forums a while back, and this is what they got. So you got it almost exactly right, yay. XD

Hito wa nanika no gisei nashi ni, nanimo erukoto wa dekinai.
Nanika wo erutame ni wa, doutou no daika ga hitsuyou ni naru.
Sore ga, renkinjutsu ni okeru "touka koukan" no gensoku da.
Sono koro, bokura wa, sore ga sekai no shinjitsu dato shinjiteita...

Wow... thanks for Japanese version of Al's dialouge! I've always wanted to know what he is saying in Japanese, but I've been too lazy to figure it out myself! ^^

Yeah . . . it helps that Japanese is such a phonetic language.

I have the kanji, if ya want. ^^;;
