Does anybody know how to navigate the new Scimitar Smile website?

I am at a complete loss as to how to find stories by specific authors and/or titles. I could do it before but I can't get anywhere there now. Help?

Top right hand corner click "open menu" and you'll see a link for onsite authors and such.

I tried that but nothing on the menu works, no links pop up. Maybe it's all still in transition and they'll be working later. :/

I just went and looked. At the bottom of the page you listed was a link that said "enter the archives." Click that. From there you'll get to a page with a drop-down menu that will allow you to select archives of individual author's works. Hope this helps!

That said, the drop down menu thing appears not to be working atm. I think that they're in a time of transistion. Might be best to check back in a week or so and see. Is there a particular author or story you're looking for? I don't know much but I might be able to help.

ETA: looks like the commenter before me found an actually workable solution! Try that instead. :)

Yeah, every search comes up "Sorry, no results for that search. Please widen your search and try again." no matter what you put in the search boxes. I was looking for something from girl_starfish called Glasses (I think) but it seems I'm S.O.L. for now. The Open Menu thing doesn't work either btw. :(

http://www.scimitarsmile.com/archives.php?a=34 is all of girl_starfish's works that are converted so far. I hope the 'contact archive' link works soon.

hmm. None of these is the fic I was looking for. I'll probably never find it; it was really old so it's probably gone for good. :(

How'd you manage to pull up an author listing? That's one of the things I've been trying to do but can't! *is sad*

Is there any way to contact anybody at Scimitar Smile? I'd like to tell them that none of the fics that I can pull up show the title of the fic, the pairings of the fic, and that almost all of them have these odd little squares scattered throughout the fic. I will be SO glad when the conversion thing is done!!

I'm running Internet Explorer 8, so the 'open menu' works for me. From there, I can click 'onsite authors'. Apparently, different browsers have different experiences with ScimitarSmile. As far as I can tell, mikkeneko & sol 1056 are the amazing people behind the archive, but I've not had a lot of success in contacting. I hope the unconverted stuff isn't gone for good, since I've been waiting for maypirate's Pavlov, which used to be on 2.0.

I'm still running IE 7 so maybe that's part of the problem. :/

I doubt I'd have any better luck than you in contacting someone so I guess it's just a matter of waiting until everything's finished converting. Still, someone should know about those things I mentioned previously. I have no idea how I'd even begin to get ahold of these two. :/

I too hope the unconverted stuff isn't gone! There were a lot of really good stories there I'd really like to read again, assuming the search thingy ever gets worked out. *headdesk*

There is a link at the bottom of that page for the archives. Once in the archives you can seach by specific authos, or rating, or gen/het/slash

Unfortunately, the search thing isn't working no matter what you put in there. You can get into the archive but that's about it, no searching for anything or anyone. Maybe everything is just in transition and will be working later, I hope! :(

I'm having the same problem. I know the title of the fic I want to read, but I can't remember the author, and there's no way to search.
amethyst_konekoamethyst_koneko on July 18th, 2010 06:51 am (UTC)
I know, and it's driving me nuts! Hopefully everything will transition over soon and everything, every link, every search option, will be working soon. :(

Drop-down menu worked for me after a few attempts. Might be a browser compatibility issue. But wow is that a crazy new layout.
amethyst_konekoamethyst_koneko on July 19th, 2010 12:44 am (UTC)
Yeah, crazy new layout that for some reason I can't get to work. :(

What do you mean by browser compatibility issue? What is that and how can I fix it?
Irishockeyiris on July 19th, 2010 12:55 am (UTC)
It just means that the site might be, currently, better in one browser type than another. Like... if you use Firefox, but it's better in Internet Explorer. There are just different browsers and sometimes the scripts used on sites to run menus are more compatible with one browser, not another.

It's not always the case, but it's something to try. I use Firefox, but as I said, it did take a couple tries for me to make the menu work. I didn't try in any others.

I've tried using the search function in Chrome, IE and Mozilla/Firefox engine. The search and menu work in Chrome and Firefox, but only the menu works in IE. So it does seem to be compatibility issues.
amethyst_konekoamethyst_koneko on July 19th, 2010 11:51 pm (UTC)
dang. Just my luck. Hopefully this compatibility mess will get sorted out later on. :( Thanks for taking the time to investigate this. :)

the Open Menu function works fine for me (just tested it). I can find no way to search by fic title, but you can still search by author, pairing, etc. Pretty much everything *except* fic title. Search Archives also works now.
amethyst_konekoamethyst_koneko on July 19th, 2010 12:42 am (UTC)
How did you get the search for author, pairing, etc to work? When I click on the open menu thing (which for some reason opens only when I click in the blank space next to the pocketwatch O_o?), the only things that work for me are the listings at the top - codes, colors, and canons - and what I get from clicking on those is random as hell. The other things at the bottom of that red bar - characters, pairings, onsite authors, etc - don't do anything. I point at the words but nothing pops up. I can get into the archives but no matter what kind of search I try to do once I'm in there will work. I always get "no results for that search". Any ideas of what I'm doing wrong or how to make this work?
The Sleeping Dragondormantdrake on July 19th, 2010 11:40 am (UTC)
Well, everything that you described not working for you (clicking on author names, etc) worked for me, so... I dunno. Maybe you're using a different browser? I'm using the latest version of Firefox.
