About the upcoming movie...
Just coming back from Japan Expo in Paris, where there were many FMA events! (Conference with the french voice actors, message to the fans from Romi Park, Rie Kugimiya and Shinichiro Miki...) And yesterday, the episodes 63 and 64 have been broadcasted in the presence of Yasuhiro Irie (director of FMA:B) and the producers from Aniplex and Square-Enix. The latter officially announced what most of you learned with the 64th episode, i.e. that there will be a movie.

clewilan and I had the opportunity to get some more information while talking with the French editor (who spent the day with the japanese FMA team and was the one who announced the upcoming movie in their names) after the broadcast, and he said it would be a live action movie. Keep in mind that this one was pretty much unofficial, but that's what has been said. All we have to do now is wait for the official announcement...

We don't know anything about the plot, but I suppose it can't be a sequel of the series/manga, simply because it couldn't be called FullMetal Alchemist seeing what happen to Ed.

If you remember the omake that was in volume 15 (scan from Mena), Arakawa already talked about that project as "something she has often discussed with her assistants" and gave the names of the actors she would want to see in it if it was realized: Mitchy aka Oikawa Mitsuhiro as Roy, Masahiko Nishimura as Yoki, Hotei Tomoyasu as Greed, one of the Kanô sisters as Lust and I really don't get why *cough*, Tetsuya Watari as Bradley, and Mame Yamada or Hiroshi Neko as Edward... These last two choices having absolutely nothing to do with their short nature, of course.
I wonder if any of them could actually be in the movie...

(By the way, the french editor declared for the lulz that he would assume Roy Mustang's role. If it can reassure you, he doesn't have any moustache.)

#Post edited in order to add a couple of precisions.

Live action! That's kind of exciting, though I'm an animation girl at heart. I wish we knew more about the plot! :D

Live action.

Seriously?

?

*headdesk*

I was wary about a movie, anyway, but since every manga->live action adaptation gets labelled by my brain as 'cheestastic' this does not bode well.

NO ヽ(o`皿′o)ノ please god no. Anime basically never translates well to live action. It would only be cheesy to me. T^T...

BUT holy god Oikawa is hot.

Anyone who's seen The Last Airbender can vouch for the fact that Animation-to-Live Action movies can end very, very badly.

But hopefully this can tie up some loose ends. Looking forward to it.

It'll be interesting to see who'll be involved in making this. I'm assuming it'll be an Asian company, and not Hollywood. Although that kind of makes me more hesitant, because the series is so obviously based on Western culture, so. Hmm. :|
hayaaateuhhayaaateuh on July 5th, 2010 07:59 pm (UTC)
Exactly. Even the list Arakawa gave was followed by comment from one of her assistants about how "Japanese actors don't fit the FMA universe!". But the idea of Hollywood making the movie... *shivers*

LIVE ACTION! That WILL SUCK! I mean come on the characters of FMA are not all one nationality (and if they use ALL Japanese actors!!)... I HATE live action movies made from animation hence why I never bothered with Death Note and OMG when they do Cowboy BeBop ... I will NEVER watch it.

Live-action?

I'll pass. We all know how successful and totally not failtastic the most recent adaptation of an animated series was. :/

Oh, um.
I suppose it has potential for hilarity, if nothing else? IDK, I'm torn about this.

Also Ed and Al being Japanese. And Hohenheim. And Scar. My brain is shorting out.
