107 colouring
I really liked the last page of chapter 107, so I decided to color it in.

Photobucket

I kinda screwed up remembering where shadows were. Meh. And I know the backround is a little distracting. I was trying to make clouds with the dodge/burn tool and I ended up going overboard and liking it that way.

I like the colours, personally! They're really striking and bold, perfect for that scene. :D But you're right about the shadows; although a lack of them adds to the intensity, perhaps a few more defined ones would have worked better.

But I really like it.

Oh, I liked this a lot. Especially his eyes.

Looks pretty good, I was thinking of grabbing that page and do the same myself at some point XD

As for the clouds, if you are using a tablet I advice using the Airbrush Pen Opacity Flow brush. I found that brush helps a lot when coloring in general :D

Is that for Photoshop? Because I only have GIMP. I be poor.

I never used GIMP, so I assume yes, sorry. You could look through the brushes GIMP has for anything symilar, since it's basically a brush in which the intensity of the color depends on how strong you press the pen on the tablet. The width doesn't change though, but trust me, that brush is seriously good for coloring. At the very least, it makes it easier than having to use solid colors and then use the smudge tool to blend them together XD

I need to check and see if GIMP has any brush updates, because the version I have doesn't have that. I have to switch brushes for darker areas all the time.

I think you did a great job on this. It's not bad for being done at 4AM. LOL It's better then what I could do. I'm still trying to work on my coloring.

I was trying to make clouds with the dodge/burn tool and I ended up going overboard and liking it that way.
Sounds like something I would do. XD

That looks good. What program do you use for coloring? Or are you doing it by hand?
Kit: FullMetalinulovinkit on May 28th, 2010 11:08 pm (UTC)
I use three different programs. Paint.net for resizing, and fixing up the scan. (Removing word bubble, inserting lines where word bubbles were, removing dots, upping the contrast, etc.) Then I export the file as a .bmp. Then I open it in Inkscape and trace the bitmap to make the lineart.

Then I export the lineart into GIMP and begin coloring!

Its three different programs, but its necessary to make it look the way I want it too.
