Red water found in Antarctica!
Well, not the red water we of the FMA fandom are most familiar with anyway! XD Still, a red waterfall is flowing in Antarctica. :) Check it out!  http://www.good.is/post/science-rules-antarctic-glacier-has-five-story-blood-red-waterfall-of-primodial-ooze/?GT1=48001 Truth is sometimes stranger than fiction! Or is it life immitating art? ;)

The fact that it's actually living makes it all the more eerie.

Makes ya wonder what all those little microbes are going to do now that they're out of their millions of years old isolation! :)

Wow. The ice looks like it's bleeding.

I wonder how that'll affect the ecosystem in the surrounding areas, since the salinity levels are presumably going to rise. But regardless, that is beautiful.
amethyst_konekoamethyst_koneko on March 7th, 2010 04:19 am (UTC)
I would think the salinity levels would drop since most lakes are fresh water aren't they? Either way, I doubt it's enough to change it one way or the other. The bigger question is what those ancient microbes will do now that their exposed to our environment! :)

Probably die, most likely. It's probably a huge change in environment, very quickly, and that often causes death in most organisms.

It's beautiful but...creepy at the same time. It looks too much like blood. D:
amethyst_konekoamethyst_koneko on March 7th, 2010 04:26 am (UTC)
Very creepy. Just saying "primordial ooze" makes it even creepier. :[
redrose999: America and Englandredrose999 on March 7th, 2010 01:55 am (UTC)
Most excellent! Nothing better than some primordial ooze with a cuppa joe in the morning! :P

Now we can tell Ed we've found the philosopher's stone!
amethyst_konekoamethyst_koneko on March 7th, 2010 04:23 am (UTC)
^_^ Nothing like waking up with primordial ooze in your cup! LOL!

Yayz! And we didn't have to open the Gate to do it either! (Or did we? dun dun dun! ^_^)
Kawaii Konikocaptain_hanzy on March 7th, 2010 02:08 am (UTC)
Creepy as hell, yet I wanna see it for real. The earth is such a scary bitch when she wants to be, isn't she? Kinda makes you realise how insignificant and young the human race is in the scheme of evolution...
amethyst_konekoamethyst_koneko on March 7th, 2010 04:30 am (UTC)
I'm fine right where I am thanks! :) Not sure exactly what "primordial ooze" is but it sounds intimidating, like something out of an old monster movie! :)

Agreeing with this comment 100%. No matter what people come up with in their heads, the earth will wind up topping it with its own brand of wtfery. XD

I don't know whether to find it beautiful (such a pretty red colour!) or disturbing (it looks like it's bleeding) .___.
amethyst_konekoamethyst_koneko on March 7th, 2010 04:28 am (UTC)
I vote for disturbing! :) If there's one thing you don't want to see bleeding, it's the Earth itself! :[
czarielczariel on March 7th, 2010 03:39 am (UTC)
I like the conversation here than the one they have below the article. You all are talking about what you see and how it's fascinating. The people there are going off about God and evolution-not necessary. I think it's interesting just to learn about it.

Redrose999 your comment was the best! Funny!
amethyst_konekoamethyst_koneko on March 7th, 2010 04:39 am (UTC)
Yeah, people are morons sometimes. I probably should have put a note in to say, "Please ignore the idiots at the bottom of the page. They clearly didn't read the same article I did and are talking out of their heads". *eyeroll* Why the religious right has to make everything a huge theological debate is beyond me. :P

Redrose999 for the win! ^_^

That looks really beautiful, but it's just a bit unsettling because it looks like the earth itself is bleeding.
