Total newbie question
Hello from a thoroughly clueless and anime-unsavvy new fan of FMA (since about the start of the year, via Cartoon Network). I've looked through the memories for the answer to the one big question I have, but I didn't see any posts that appeared to address it, so please pardon me for piping up with it here. :)

Simply put, I'm interested in buying the series on DVD, but I'm a bit uncertain about which set to buy. I specifically want to be sure I get the English-dubbed version (in other words, what I've been watching on CN). From browsing Amazon, I'm guessing this season 2 set has the English dubs, because I recognize Vic Mignogna's name (and I already know it's his voice I've kinda fallen in love with). I'm a bit more confused by the different season 1 sets that are listed, though.

In short, if anyone would kindly point me to the exact DVD sets I should buy, I would appreciate it very much. :)

if you want to just buy 2 sets, there's complete season 1 and complete season 2 (2nd season is what you linked). there's also the ones that split the series into 4 parts (season 1 parts 1 & 2, season 2 parts 1 & 2)

i have the 4 sets, but i think to save money, the complete sets are best... i don't think you can even find the 4 part sets anymore.

Season one has a really buff Ed on the cover (too buff in my opinion) and season two has Al on the cover.

Here is an Amazon link to the season one box set: http://www.amazon.com/Fullmetal-Alchemist-Season-One-Box/dp/B001K98M78/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1265340587&sr=8-1

I bought mine in person, but that's what it looks like, the other ones you see are probably parts of the seasons that came out before the entire box set was released.

Hope my rambling helps!

Thank you very much! For those I may have to wait until Christmas, but at least I know what to put on my wishlist. :)

I think it depends on how much you would like to spend and the price variations available. My local media store (yeeeeeears ago) sold the individual (4 episode) DVDs for around 6 USD so at the time- that was the best and only option for me, really. Shop around a bit and see what's best (and easily available) for you :D

(Though I'd go with the 2 box-sets in the link above- the 13 DVDs is getting to be a bit too much, really lol)

I'm not sure how lucky you would be going to Big Lots, but I got the mass majority of my FMA DVDs for $3 each. But you really have to search. Other than that buying the complete seasons may be your best option.
