Amestris is taking over!!!

Okay, I just thought this was SO interesting. If this is not allowed, please delete, mods.

I was browsing the magazines at the store, when I spotted the most recent National Geographic, feature Bionics.

In short---AUTOMAIL.

MIND. BLOWN.

The moment it's available to the general public, I'm chopping my arm off.

Okay, I'm not. I'll just daydream about it.

Hahaha, but you still have see Truth to be able to transmute things without a circle!

I've been reading up on this for a while. Fascinating stuff, huh?
maksoumaksou on January 24th, 2010 03:40 am (UTC)
I just saw it today and was FLOORED!

I saw this girl on Oprah and she had a much earlier version of the arm in the article (that was several years ago now...I think) Anyway, it was damn cool :D

Every time I've passed this issue on my kitchen table for the past month or two, I have thought about posting it to the comm.

Also: kd;lsjflkasj AUTOMAIL

I HAD to say something. Cause I'm weird like that.

The Binary Alchemist: Beautiful Munichbinaryalchemist on January 24th, 2010 04:04 am (UTC)
I heard about this about a year ago--bloody amazing. And I still think that Ed would be a real hero to kids who are amputees--a very cool, very heroic character who lost his limbs and never lets it stand in the way.
maksoumaksou on January 24th, 2010 04:05 am (UTC)
I totally agree with that. Even if he is fictitious, he's my hero. I know is sounds silly, but someone who can go through so much and never let his shortcomings(lol) stop him--true excellence.

I have the month copy if this article. I kept reminding myself to post about it but forgot XD.

YES I KNOW ITS AMAZING. AAAAAAH. *sleep deprived flail* When I saw it in the mail I was all
me: HOLY SHIT THEY'RE MAKING THESE NOW!?
dad: ...?
me: ITS WHAT EDWARD HAS :D :D :D!
maksoumaksou on January 24th, 2010 04:37 am (UTC)
I DID THE SAME THING! Luckily my dad has started watching the show, so he knows what I'm talking about.

I remember a couple years ago when I first read about this tech - I was like, "Automail!!" in the doctor's office...

I wonder if any of the scientists have ever seen or heard of FMA. I'm sure they'd just think it was so cool - that there is an anime and manga about what they do.

Fujilittlefuji on January 24th, 2010 04:54 am (UTC)
Awesome!
kurokaze_samakurokaze_sama on January 24th, 2010 05:58 am (UTC)
My response:
ZOFUCKAUTOMAIL. ASDFGHJ- *aspodes*

But wow, that's really cool. It's really admirable what scientists can do with prosthetics nowadays.
>Kat<: determinationtanya_lilac on January 24th, 2010 06:04 am (UTC)
That's soo amazing! *geek-splosion* ALSO, the whole Second Sight thing? Reminds me of Until Death Do Us Part. Just... spectacular.
Ketita: movie edketita on January 24th, 2010 07:16 am (UTC)
My uncle specializes in bionics, and has done a bunch of surgeries for installing arms and whatnot :)
It's only a matter of time - and probably the surgery isn't nearly so excruciating as what FMA features, mostly because of the existence of general anaesthesia....
Kit: Edo-kuninulovinkit on January 24th, 2010 07:51 am (UTC)
I remember seeing this in my Dad's National Geographic. I meant to scan and post it here, but it never got done.

You know technology is awesome when its cooler to be an amputee than to have normal arms. XD

The other thing more awesome than the fact that automail is pretty much REAL, is the fact that so many people on this comm still read Nat Geo. YAY FOR ALCHEMY SCIENCE.
