Throwing Knives
Hey all. C: Just thought I'd pimp my cosplay handiwork. I actually made this one a year ago and could do a lot better now, but I still rather like it. I actually make these for cash, but I guess not a lot of people cosplay Hughes anymore. xD This is the "anime" version and is like 893457457x more of a bitch to make than the manga/Brotherhood version. :]

HOLY CRAP THAT IS AMAZING! Great prop work!!

Also, I loe working with .20 sheet plastic. :> So many uses~
Cat Spectacularpyro_edward on July 3rd, 2009 05:50 pm (UTC)
Sheet plastic is fun. C: I found out the hard way that I need something a little thinner for things like automail, though. xD
This Bison Be Jammin': Kickin' it Prairie Style: Hughes: *shrug* ;]jamminbison on July 3rd, 2009 05:53 pm (UTC)
You can use it sometimes for automail, like on pieces you know aren't gonna move much, but I prefer PVC vinyl for flexibility purposes on automail. :3
Cat Spectacularpyro_edward on July 3rd, 2009 05:58 pm (UTC)
I usually use lighter plastic covered with vinyl for the movey bits. My automail's a little frail at the moment, though, since I have yet to re-adhere everything on the body piece with something that is not hot glue. >_>

I love this icon. o_o;; Source on it??

Ah, that's true, I might have to try that for strength and all that jazz. My automail was subject to HUMID AS HELL conditions first con and all the FabriTac and hot glue in the world couldn't save it from at least getting all...trying to fall apart on some places that weren't sewn. What holds vinyl on vinyl together? D8

No idea, it's from Brotherhood, but I just gank icons, because I'm terrible like that. D8;

Wood glue is your friend. =0

...I never thought of that. What brand do you use? :DDD

If I ever attempt automail I think my best friend will be grommets and my "grometter".

My next REAL challenge will be a believable/rocking Izumi wig. (And the yoga and Pilates to REALLY pull it off. I'm 5'9" and I CAN get ripped.)
This Bison Be Jammin': Kickin' it Prairie Style: Hughes: *shrug* ;]jamminbison on July 4th, 2009 04:24 am (UTC)
My friend is currently figuring out how to do a believable Izumi wig for our cosplay crew and it's mostly involving a thin yard braided with wig hair over and over again to get that dread look. If she shows me how to do it this weekend, I could shoot you a PM with details, if you want [I know shit to nothing about wig styling]. :]

THAT would be awesome! I'm fairly sure if I was "straight wefting" that it would drive me insane and weigh TEN TONS!

This year I added/sewed wefts in the back to my Sloth wig (we went with soft black for her to keep it DARK in '07 for ACen) to make Hanajima Saki from Fruits Basket. It turned out really well, but for my comfort I need to sew in more wefts in the sides/sideburns. (I failed at getting it "done" on time... brought pins and hairspray to the FRBA photo shoot as we'd cut the bangs into an "all one length" wig on a wig head on Thursday night... blah!) *ALL normal people keep sick amounts of hair pins/bobby pins, hairspray, gel, wax and scissors on their person!*

As a side note... we kicked ass! :)

havocmangawip: Lust Incognitohavocmangawip on July 4th, 2009 04:46 am (UTC)
THANK YOU! I will pass this onto Laura. :) Everyone but Greed had Contact Lenses... and EVERYONE had Liquid Latex Ourobouros. Greed even had "replica bear claws" that Laura dremelled out and put onto his fingers with "undertakers' putty" and then liquid latexed his whole hand!

At Reactor that year George shaved his head... and we gained a Pride and a Wrath. :)

The Liquid Latex is really a good idea, most people just have a smeared from sweat, drawn on, Ouroboros. This is what I love about cosplay, all the different ways to recreate something, fff.

lkdjsd;; all 7! That's just perfect! Never seen a pack of homunculus running around. You guys must be a riot! x3
havocmangawip: Lust Incognitohavocmangawip on July 4th, 2009 05:20 am (UTC)
WE WISH all 7 at once! The second set of pictures with Pride and Wrath was taken nearly 6 months later and Envy and Lust had a family engagement.

I do know that with just 5 we could NOT walk down the hall. We eventually just set up "stations" for photo ops.

With Sloth's "skirt"? NOT hardly for the "running" part. The skirt train extends about 18 inches from the floor in all directions. It is AMAZING! Laura and her Mom took a prefab pattern and customized it on my body. SO cool!
havocmangawip: Elizagoodgirlhavocmangawip on July 4th, 2009 05:39 am (UTC)
And "incidentally"... those push knives kick complete ass! As someone who made a "non-drawable tanto" for Fuu in Samurai Champloo... you have my COMPLETE respect! I was working on a weapon that would NEVER "be drawn"... you had a sharp edge to recreate! WELL DONE!!!

(AND even as a "fan shaped" knife sheathe I CUSSED AND CUSSED! I ended up saying f'it and in addition to "depth painting" added Swarovski flat back crystals. Kairi W. and I agreed that Fuu would totally dig the bling. ;)
This Bison Be Jammin': Kickin' it Prairie Style: DUN HURT MEjamminbison on July 4th, 2009 04:38 am (UTC)
Oh god, that would cause such a headache, too! I'll shoot you a PM eventually~

Rofl, normal for COSPLAY people to carry that, and hot glue around, haha. And fff, wig talk flies over my head, I'm all for props and armor and crap. Dx; What the hell is a weft? Dx
havocmangawip: Elysia Pansuhavocmangawip on July 4th, 2009 04:43 am (UTC)
A "weft" is when you get SUPER fun and either order hair in the proper color and CREATE one with caulk (Which I haven't done yet and hope never to do.) or take apart an existing hair piece bit by bit and sew it into the wig for extra hair. I'm a huge fan of Amphigory.com products for this. She's aces! I also make my own Lolita falls.:) *I started off as a "prop maker". I've moved onto hair. Soon it WILL BE sewing.
This Bison Be Jammin': Kickin' it Prairie Style: Master Crane-Oheyjamminbison on July 4th, 2009 04:48 am (UTC)
lxkdsd;sdl, your icon.

Oh wow, that's some amazing and reasonable wig work on there! Thanks for the link and info. Hehe, I can't do wigs, because I'm the opposite of a girl and barely know how to put up my own hair, not alone style. And sewing is fun! >:D
