Episodes?

I don't know how accurate this is, but Wikipedia has a listing of the Episode titles of Brotherhood up to ep. 5:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Fullmetal_Alchemist_episodes#Fullmetal_Alchemist:_Brotherhood

So, it looks like our episode break down is this:

2. Backstory
3. Lior
4. Nina
5. Introduction of Scar

So meaning if they intend to follow the manga, then we've got the Resembool, 3rd laboratory, (possible Al angst arc) Hughes, and Rush Valley arcs before we even GET to Greed.

...I dunno, I was kinda hoping that'd we'd screw that and jump right into Greed so we can get to Xing and stuff, but whatever. As long as they're planning on getting to it SOMETIME, I'm happy, I guess.

See...I found the anime crossed the ever-subjective line between angst and...wangst (tvtropes has affected by vocabulary in so many...interesting ways). Arakawa has a lot of really crappy things happen to her characters, but wherever she has a chance to lighten the situation, she does...whereas in the 1st anime, whenever there as an opening to make the story even a tiny bit angstier, they took it and ran. And there's also a...resiliency in the manga characters that I found lacking in their anime counterparts.

As for the ending of the series/movie - it never happened :P

Here is how to watch Conquerors of Shamballa and not hate it: fast forward to every scene with Edward, drool over eighteen year-old Edward, rewatch reunion scenes (because they and eighteen year-old Edward are the only reason for the movie), imagine that, after chasing down the bomb and having Parallel!Verse high jinks, they make it back to Amestris :D
Also ignore that Mustang turned into a spineless ooze of wangst for the purposes of making a dramatic entrance. It never happened!

Sometimes being canon!brained makes it impossible difficult to enjoy other mediums (for example...the Harry Potter movies), in other instances, it helps because then you don't take anything non-canonical seriously, and can therefore sit back, relax, and fully enjoy eighteen year-old Edward as he is meant to be enjoyed :P

Lol. I have to partly disagree with the toaster post though - I think it holds (depressingly) true for anime1!Ed, but manga!Ed would probably have blamed Winry ("You tinkered with the toaster didn't you!" and he would have been right) that said, manga!Ed still has a ridiculous guilt complex, I love it when Al calls him out on it. Oh Ed, do you even realize how absurd you are?

It's odd, Ed in all his manifestations has a ridiculous guilt complex but it really plays out differently in the anime1 and the manga...I don't even know how to qualify it.

No...it's more like...manga!Ed has a responsibility complex...he has to take full responsibility for the consequences of each of his actions - which may results in guilt. Like, in chapter 77 - he tells Lion King "I'm in this situation because I've been too soft, I made a mess and now I gotta clean it up" as he's about to use his own life energy to heal his punctured stomach of DOOM. To summarily: it's Ed's fault that he got fatally injured because he followed his resolve not to kill and didn't gut Kimbley like he deserved. He doesn't feel guilty about it, but it's still his mess.

...Oh. MY. GOD Edward Elric, you are insane. I wonder where he got that from? My money's on Izumi and Roy (you're an adult now, adult = being responsible), and a bit from Trisha (older brother stuff = be responsible). Not sure how Izumi factors into it but I'm sure she does. And Ed worships her. Seriously. Look at his face when the boys say they'll show her how they've improved. Or any interaction with her when she isn't yelling at them.

Toaster angst *snicker*

And <3 MelonLord!Toph

...I take angst in any form, including wangst... it's my hidden weakness :P of course, I may also be a little biased because even though I came to prefer manga canon, the anime was my introduction to FMA so I cannot hate it even if I wish they hadn't changed so many things XD

ah, I see we are in agreement of this. what ending? :P

actually, I mostly only watch the parts where Ed and Al & Roy and Ed meet up again. Ed in the other world bores me, and I don't like Hei!Al, and the whole plot bores me, so I just watch for the few moments of reunion and pretty. Actually, I rarely watch at all, but when I do that's what I go for. Takes like ten minutes XD

Your way's even better! More efficient :P

My bias, of course, runs the other way so I completely understand. Although it's funny - I started reading the MANGA because I saw an anime amv with clips from FMA so...really, the anime was my first intro to FMA, lol.
