Episodes?

I don't know how accurate this is, but Wikipedia has a listing of the Episode titles of Brotherhood up to ep. 5:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Fullmetal_Alchemist_episodes#Fullmetal_Alchemist:_Brotherhood

So, it looks like our episode break down is this:

2. Backstory
3. Lior
4. Nina
5. Introduction of Scar

So meaning if they intend to follow the manga, then we've got the Resembool, 3rd laboratory, (possible Al angst arc) Hughes, and Rush Valley arcs before we even GET to Greed.

...I dunno, I was kinda hoping that'd we'd screw that and jump right into Greed so we can get to Xing and stuff, but whatever. As long as they're planning on getting to it SOMETIME, I'm happy, I guess.

I'm assuming/hoping they'll get the Xing crew in, I mean, they already spoiled with Father/manga Sloth, so I do kinda wonder why we've not seen any art of the Xing character yet.
Still, I expected it to start from the begining, more faithfully to the manga this time. It would've been....a bit off if they went from Rush Valley with the first ep.

*nods* About the Xing crew, that's what I was hoping too (though you can't expect them this early on.) What is more 'worrying' is that, as has been kindly pointed out to me: there's no mention of any Xing characters in the credits. Maybe they're keeping them for a 2nd season? ^^;

I'm pretty sure we'll be in the Devil's Nest arc by episode 20-something, if not earlier. I'd rather they follow the manga and create a good story than rush the whole thing. :/
eiliemeiliem on April 8th, 2009 06:21 pm (UTC)
Seconded.

Am super pumped to see everything! I would have been very disappointed if they'd skipped anything because it had "already been done" - they're going to do it differently! Hurray!!!!!

Well, patience is a virtue. XD Now that we know the plot will be more faithful to the manga, all we can do is wait till we get to the part with Xing.

They already showed young!Hoho too, in the opening sequence, at that.

Yes! That's what I said too, right? It's just that the Xingese peeps aren't introduced until volume 8, so we've got some Xingese-free weeks ahead of us (unfortunately).
AceXKeikaiacexkeikai on April 8th, 2009 11:35 am (UTC)
They will bring up Xing people but I don;t think it will be before at least in the middle of the first season (And they will probably change the intro approprietly) If they follow the manga then poor Hughes's fate will come way too fast, when I saw him with Elysia I wanted to cry so much ;___; I'm glad we saw more of Gracia too. :)

But the new series diverges from the old already... cause in the first one, didn't Al and Ed help little Elysia into this world? Now they meet her and she's already like 4 or 5
fractured_chaosfractured_chaos on April 8th, 2009 12:49 pm (UTC)
Ed and Al helped deliver Elysia in the first anime, but not in the manga. The new anime is supposed to follow the manga more closely.

To honest, I really expect that for the most part it'll follow the manga pretty directly after the intro episode and backstory are used as a hook.

I mean yeah, I'm so looking forward to Greed and the Xingians, but I'd rather wait a while, even if it means redoing stuff from the old anime, if it sticks more to the manga.

Also: How much money would we put on the new OP arriving the same time as the Xingians?
The unPossible: :Dplushabilities on April 8th, 2009 01:12 pm (UTC)
I'll put in $5!

Actually, I think 'season' 1 will end after the Greed arc in the manga. The arrival of the Xingians comes after the major crisis of that arc, while everything is starting to normalize again.

Father plays an important role in the final scene of the Greed Arc (and Sloth DOES make a cameo in that scene), so it would make sense to show him but not Ling and the gang.

I was so excited about that, it's ridiculous. SO. EXCITED!

I mean - what's more dramatic? Deliberately doing the impossible during a sacrifice to save your brother's soul? Or accidentally finding out you can do the impossible by transmuting a bunch of...was it flowers?

That scene in the manga is one of my favourites, it was so emotional and intense - I hope they can capture that in the anime!!!! *is anxiously hopeful*

*goes to watch the trailers for the hundredth time*

If it's accurate, then I'm happy with that. I can't wait to see Xing-crew animated, but I'm so excited for a manga plot anime, and I'd much rather have to sit through stuff a second time round than to rush through things just because it was in the previous anime. though I admit I do get very bored by them taking down the priest in Lior and the first Rush Valley arc. as long as they don't spend a million episodes on them... xD
eiliemeiliem on April 8th, 2009 06:36 pm (UTC)
If this info is accurate, looks like Lior is going to be one ep, which works, I think.

Was the first Rush Valley arc the one where Paninya (or whatever her name is) stole Ed's watch and then Winry delivers a baby? Think they could fit that in one ep? Not a whole lot happens, really...

The Xing people and the identity of Pride are one of the few things left that they can actually hold off on and make surprises of in the new series, especially for people who read the manga. I think showing Father and manga!Sloth in that poster image was done mostly so that those people who read the manga actually did know FMA:B was following the manga story this time.

Father and manga!Sloth aren't in the OP either, so unless someone actually went looking for art from the show they wouldn't know who they are either. One of my friends who's only watched the first anime (and loved it) but doesn't know anything wrt the manga watched the first episode of FMA:B, and didn't know who Father was or what he was about when he popped up for his brief cameos. (I didn't tell her and spoil it for her either).

As for Pride, I'm sure people who only know the first anime and nothing else still think it's King Bradley, as my friend did.

As for the episode list, if it's accurate, it looks like they are going to try to get through the repeat stuff as quickly as they can. I'm glad we're going to get all the back story stuff in one go, and there are enough differences between what happened in Lior and with Nina in the manga then what happened in the first anime that it should make it at least interesting to see done again.

I'm still in the OMG yay Greed ^_^ stage. He did not get enough love in the first series so I was so happy when I saw him get quite a decent segment in the OP. I do think that the series will probably cut off after his arc and then the OP will change. I'm curious to know whether King Bradley will actually be Wrath in this one, admittedly I do have trouble associating him with Wrath since I watched the anime first and got into the manga afterwards (IMO he passes more as Pride than Wrath in terms of acting like their 'sin' which only Greed REALLY blatantly does anyway).

Did anyone else think that Liore looked especially creepy at the end of episode 1? I'm trying to pick up just where in the timeline this episode sits (although it's already changed the timeline of the anime, since Ed met Hughes during the train hijacking which never happened in the manga and helped with the birth of Elysia) but it didn't feel any less out of place this way. I was going to assume that Cornello had already kicked the bucket but doesn't Ed make a comment about being pulled from going to Liore because of Isaac?
eiliemeiliem on April 8th, 2009 06:50 pm (UTC)
King Bradley will be Wrath - or they're complete liars about following the manga :P It probably depends on which medium you came across first - I think he fits as Wrath and I love am creeped the hell out by manga!Pride.

No, I agree - creepy!Liore was creepy. It looked to me like the first episode takes place right before Liore. And Lust is saying that things are going to begin soon, not that they already have which would have been the case if Cornello were already dead.

The train highjacking does happen in the manga, just in a different order than the first anime. Also firstanime!Ed is twelve in the first episodes (when does he get older in that anime anyways?), whereas manga!Ed is fifteen from the get-go (I am assuming that FMAB!Ed is also already fifteen).

Being the artist I am.. c.c I wouldn't mind seeing those parts redone to follow the manga accordingly, and animated in the new style. ^^; Rather than having them rush it. I mean I'm sure there's a whole new generation/group that's getting FMA2/FMA;B as their 'introduction' to the entire series a whole. <3

lord knows one of my new recruits from the bs6 fandom is getting intro'd to fma by the new anime :D! "WATCH THIS THAT'S A DIRECT ORDER D:<" "AYE AYE CAPTAIN TALA o-o"
