A NEW anime series for FMA!
Sorry if this has already been posted before (you see, I just joined the comm because this piece of news has brought me back to the FMA fandom) but... there is going to be a NEW ANIME SERIES for FMA! Though the official release date isn't out yet...

I'm also bringing you some official evidences as well, in case any of you has any doubts about this being fake news. Scanned from NewType Oct 08 - please do not redistribute these without permission (but you're free to use them for graphics etc) ^^~

Higher-res version of these scans are available here - though they're mixed up with some other scans like Gundam00 and Macross Frontier etc XD

I think this is referred to the new anime (as far as I'm concerned it's a remake more than a new season o.o) and the upcoming box set of the anime that is supposed to be released in January (though I'm not sure about the date). Anyway, thank you for sharing! =)
Shikumoshikumo on September 12th, 2008 05:24 pm (UTC)
Well, they're going to organize an event for a number of lucky-buyesr of the box-set that's going to be released in 28 Jan. Yes that's one thing - but they indeed ARE making a "new series" (新シリーズ) of FMA with staff, cast and story still unknown. The writing there mainly talks about the uncertainty actually, about whether the new series will continue after the movie ending, or will it actually go back and follow the original storyline etcetc so nah, it's not just a remake...
Adateniente_ross on September 12th, 2008 06:06 pm (UTC)
Yeah, the whole thing about the new series has been discussed recently; but some people said it was remake (following the storyline of the manga... sorry, that's what I meant by saying remake -I didn't express myself very good ^_^U-), and other people said it was after the movie and that. But now it seems that it's not even clear in Japan... so we just can wait.

New to me. This is actually rather interesting.

Yeah, these are definitely old pics. It'd be nice if someone could translate the text on these pics. That way, we'd know for sure what this article is about.

Is it just me or does anyone else find it strange that most of the people in the last two pictures are drawn all wonky? It seems like they have new artists or something. D:

Wonky is an understatement. The only one who looks semi-normal/decent is Al.
live4him4evalive4him4eva on September 13th, 2008 01:37 am (UTC)
Hmm, I think Armstrong, Ed, Al and Wrath are the only ones who look normal/decent. (Roy looks like fanart! DDDX)

Elysia and Gracia look okay too.

Yeah, Ed and Wrath look okay too. And Armstrong. But everyone else is just. What. WHAT. Roy looks like fanart, as you said, and Riza... Winry, Envy (why is she in a suit she looks terrible,) EVERYONE ELSE LOOKS. Um. How to say this politely.

live4him4evalive4him4eva on September 13th, 2008 02:10 am (UTC)
Riza looks out of character to be honest. she doesn't have that body type anyway.

Envy would shred that suit in a SECOND. Why the heck did they put him IN A SUIT?! DX

(btw, Envy's a dude. xD)

I think she'd look nice if they just drew her properly. 'cause it really isn't the dress that's the problem, it's the art overall. B|

Envy. Just. Looks so terrible.

(Ahahaha, so I've heard. Many times. I've seen the series and read the manga and I still think of Envy as a girl. Just. The thought of her as being completely male just mindboogles me. But yeah, we won't get into that. B|)

already heard of the news but the pics are new to me, thanx (have to say the 3rd and 4th pics are ugly :P. Roy should have an eyepatch, right?
The news really confuses me - I keep wondering about the content.
Hope it'll be as awesome as the previous anime ♥

I reeeeeally hope it's not a remake (I.E. I want it to perhaps follow the manga?) if for no other reason than I want to see anime!Ling and anime!Olivia Armstrong. BUT SO EXCITED NO MATTER WHAT. :DDDD

Also, yea art WTF. It looks like they were like "oh shit, we have some FMA news, we gotta whip out some art to go with it!"

manga based
Guys, the new series will be based on the manga. The official Aniplex website made the announcement with manga images in the background, showing manga characters. Every blog that might know something (like Moonphase) has said that all they've heard is that it will be based on the manga. The only people speculating that it might be a continuation or something like that are the fans in the trenches, but the speculation isn't based on anything.

See: http://www.aniplex.co.jp/hagaren/

Re: manga based
I was under the impression that the Aniplex website announcement was showing an image of the manga wrap that announced the new series. I really don't think it means anything.

And just as the speculation of it being an anime contiuation is based on 'nothing,' the same can be said for it being manga based. There's zero official information on this new series, other than the fact that it's happening. So saying it's End Game either way, at this point, is wrong.

Re: manga based
Sounds good to me. :)

If so, this new series will be somewhat like Hellsing Ultimate is to the original Hellsing anime - that came out before the manga had gotten very far, so they took it in their own direction. Rather than allowing the anime to continue with a second season or something, they went back and started over after the manga was nearing completion...following the manga storyline much more closely.

I don't think the FMA anime can be continued much longer past the movie. It would have to create too much to sustain itself. I mean, yes, they can have 'Ed and Al try to stop the atom bomb' instead of 'Ed and Al search for the Philosopher's Stone,' but...the movie doesn't really beg for a sequel. With no alchemy and no homunculi, no Elrics in Amestris and no Fuhrer to overthrow...it'd be hard to pull off.

I would love to see a new anime following the manga plot more closely. There is a lot more cohesion to the full story, and it's more sprawling and (to my mind) interesting. I wonder, though, how different it would be from the anime we already have (both look and plotwise).

Re: manga based
Thats cool that there going to base it on the manga more this time.
kashicatkashicat on September 14th, 2008 05:20 pm (UTC)
The art in those images doesn't bother me much. I remember how the characters were drawn on the covers of the DVDs, and they didn't really look like the anime characters either. So promo art isn't always drawn by the people who end up drawing the actual anime characters.
