FMA Exchange 2nd Anniversary Contest
A picture is worth a thousand words--or so they say. For FMA Exchange's 2nd Anniversary contest, choose at least one of the three pictures linked below and write a Fullmetal Alchemist fan fiction based off of it. Aside from that, you can do anything! Your interpretation of the image is up to you.
Images to choose from:

Now, some additional info:
--Entries should aim to be as close to 1000 words as possible, in keeping with the theme. However, the absolute limits are 500-1500 words. Any fics less or more than these values will not be judged.
--Entries must be spell-checked, and beta-read if at all possible. They cannot be crossovers with another series, as the judging panel may or may not be familiar with other anime/manga.
--In that vein, anime!verse or manga!verse is acceptable.
--You do not have to be a member of the community to participate in this contest.
--When you've completed your entry, please send it in either .html, .txt or .doc format to firstname.lastname@example.org. In the body of your e-mail, complete the following:
Written by (LJ username):
Warn for possibly questionable material (incest, BDSM, pedophilia, etc.) and spoilers (anything for manga chapters 75+).
What about incentives? Given that kalliel has no income, it's difficult to be able to pay for/ship material prizes. There was a discussion outside of FMA fandom that ridiculed the practice of awarding ficcage to contest-winning writers, but honestly? I think it's the people who write that most enjoy having fic written for them. Thus, prizes are as follows:
The First Prize winner will be able to request one Fullmetal Alchemist fan fiction. Any length, any characters, any rating. Quite literally, anything. (Multi-chaptered Armstrong/Dante set in Naruto!land, anyone?). He/she will also receive an award banner. More details to follow.
Runner-up will receive a Fullmetal Alchemist drabble (100-500 words) with identical restrictions (or lack thereof). He/she will also receive an award banner.
If there is a sufficient number of entries, other award banners may be given for Moderator's Choice and related awards.
Winners will be chosen by a panel of anonymous judges. Judges will choose their favorite stories based on strength of characterization, clarity of writing, and how well the story achieved its desired effect. There will also be special emphasis on interpretation of the prompt. (For example, it's one thing to use Image #1 as scenery for a fic. It's quite another to use it as scenery, and make that scenery an integral part of the fic--something genuinely relevant to the theme/plot.
Due date: 30 June 2008. (For any time zone confusions: I live in California, USA. If you post anytime before 7am PST, it's fine.)
So if you're interested, go for it! :D If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask! I'm also looking for possible judges, so please comment if you're interested in that as well. [comments are screened]
