Fanfic: 'House Rules'

I wrote this quite awhile ago. Don't know why I didn't post it sooner.

Title: House Rules
Author: Firebird
Rating: G
Genre: Gen
Characters: Riza and Ed
Word Count: 308
Summary: Riza lays down the law.
Warning/Notes/Disclaimer: Characters are not mine and I am not making any money off this. However, they do belong to Hiromu Arakawa/Square ENIX, MBS, ANX, BONES, FUNimation Productions, Ltd.

Riza knew to expect a certain amount of teenaged mess to come along with her teenaged houseguest. In fact, there was less than she expected. What mess there was actually turned out to be more of the 'alchemist-at-work' kind.

And even then, there wasn't much of that. An incident involving Ed leaving some notes out where Black Hayate could get at them overnight resulted in him making sure to put them away somewhere when he was done for the night and stacking the books neatly. Even if they were still all over her coffee table. Riza still wasn't sure when Ed apparently claimed her sitting room as his own personal study area.

No, it was a different habit of his that got on her nerves. And was difficult on her furniture.

"I believe we're going to have to set up a new house rule."

"Mm?" Ed had to shake himself out of his mental zone and look over at her. Riza nodded at his booted feet, which were currently on her sofa.

"Said house rule being that footwear is to be worn in the house only when the person wearing it is here for a short time. Such as to retrieve something needed, eat something, or both before leaving again. Otherwise, it's boots off and left at either the door or in the appropriate bedroom."

Ed blinked at her and then the light dawned in his eyes as he looked at himself. "I swear I started off sitting normally..."</p>

Riza just cleared her throat, resulting in Ed hastily swinging his legs around and off the couch and setting his book aside so he could take his boots off. "Right, right, boots don't belong on the furniture because it scuffs it up, I get it," he muttered, blushing, before scooting by her to leave the offending gear in his room.

Hee hee, that's cute. I often have Ed's little "I swear I started off sitting normally." ;)

Thanks for reading. ^_^ I think a lot of people do that, but Ed's particularly bad at it. XD

I've just gotten into FMA, so I'm trying to read and reply to as much fanfic as possible. Hopefully I'll see you around. ;)

Well, I have all the fics I've ever posted to LJ in my memories. Including quite a bit of porn, so er, you may wanna watch out and pay attention to the rating and genre bits while checking out the posts. XD; (Although any future porn is probably gonna become an IJ only thing, to be safe. -_- I've already got an Ed/Riza piece posted under flock on a couple of comms over there...)

*starts going through your memories* (Which, um, sounds weird.)

Ha. Porn. *snickers* I haven't written FMA fic yet, but I have a pile of porn I've authored. All you've done is tempt me more. ;)

Although any future porn is probably gonna become an IJ only thing, to be safe.

This is my first fandom where I'd be affected my LJ's policies. I was wondering what the general consensus was on navigating that. . . . Are most people linking to IJ or are there brave souls who assume they won't judge artistic merit of fanfics?

I don't think there's really any sort of general consensus on it. Although I have noticed that fandom seems to have become a lot quieter. -_-; It seems to be an individual author thing. Some of us jumping ship and fleeing to IJ, some posting to both, etc. There are some who started fics that include sex here and are continuing them (sometimes with or without locks), still posting new porn fics, etc; some not. Just... yikes.

Are there many active FMA comms on IJ? I hadn't moved over because my main fandoms weren't really affected and it's difficult to establish yourself elsewhere when everything is already nice and cozy. But if IJ is more active than LJ for FMA, it could be in my best interest to set myself up over there since I'd be starting new anyway.

*sigh* Establishing yourself in a new fandom is always difficult. I feel like I'm going, "I swear I'm a good writer! Just because you haven't read my 90 other stories in other fandoms doesn't mean I'm new!" :P

Doesn't seem to be, no. (This fic here? Also posted to three comms on IJ and nary a comment over there.) There's several comms and I'm in five of them. I think people are mostly paying attention to things over here (and posting here) because of friends that haven't made the move. Which keeps the comms over there from being all that active.

Sorry if this is a little incoherent or something. I haven't had enough sleep and am seriously considering going back to bed. XD;

Then it sounds like this is still the place to be. And it seems like posting f-locked isn't totally necessary. Perhaps I'll be brave. Not like FMA is as public as Harry Potter anyway. ;)

Sleep is a good thing. I wish I could go back to bed. *kicks work*

And thanks for talking about this with me. All my FMA friends aren't really in the fandom and couldn't answer these questions.

It's still a lot quieter than it had been though. ::looks mournfully at the all-too-quiet Ed/Alfons comm she's in:: And heh, no it's not. Thankfully.

(Yes, I did end up giving up and passing back out for couple of hours. But one of my birds and my sister's cat were evidently conspiring against me in the making sure I got as much sleep as I wanted/needed. Bah. Oh well. At least I got more.)

And you're welcome. ^_^

Awww. I absolutely adore the idea XD.
