General Fullmetal Alchemist FST
I want to call this my Fullmetal Alchemist FST, but in truth it's too disorganized to merit such a title. However, these are the songs that, when I hear them, make me think "Wow, I love FMA! This reminds me of it so much!" (and later, "Golly, I want to write FMA fic now!") If such is untrue for you, at least you can listen to an eclectic mix of tunes?

All links lead to YSI - if a file is unavailable, tell me and I'll re-upload it for you.

Fullmetal Alchemist Fan Soundtrack

Going Down in Flames - 3 Doors Down
Edward Elric. When I first heard this song, I was struck by the lack of remorse the singer revealed as he sang about... going down in flames. To me, it sounds like the sort of thing Ed would do - even in realizing that something is probably going to go terribly horribly wrong, he would see it through to the bitter end, never giving in. Don't tell me how life is / 'cause I don't really want to know / don't tell me how this game ends / we'll just see how it goes / I'm going down in flames

You Can't Take Me - Bryan Adams
Another one of those 'I'm a crazed maniac but I'll persevere like no one's business' songs for Ed. This one reminds me of his initial contact with the Gate (Why did it all go wrong? / I wanna know what's going on / And what's this holding me? / I'm not where I supposed to be) and later his career as a State Alchemist (Got to fight another fight - I gotta run another night / Get it out - check it out / I'm on my way and I don't feel right / I gotta get me back / You can't take me I'm free).

Brothers Under the Sun - Bryan Adams
This one is significantly softer; even with perseverance there is defeat (and perhaps wistfulness). I had a dream - of the wide open prairie / I had a dream - of the pale morning sky / I had a dream - that we flew on golden wings / And we were the same - just the same - you and I / Follow your heart - little child of the west wind / Follow the voice - that's calling you home / Follow your dreams - but always, remember me / I am your brother - under the sun

Homeward Bound - Simon and Garfunkel
Edward and Alphonse Elric. Mostly because it talks about trains (always important, har) and home, the meaning of which is significantly stressed at the beginning of the series. Another slower, somewhat depressing song. Tonight I'll sing my songs again / I'll play the game and pretend / But all my words come back to me / In shades of mediocrity / Like emptiness in harmony / I need someone to comfort me

Eleanor Rigby - The Beatles
Dante and her macabre, quasi-romantic tendencies, relating in particular to Hohenheim. Eleanor Rigby picks up the rice in the church where a wedding has been / Lives in a dream (No one was saved) / Waits at the window, wearing the face that she keeps in a jar by the door / Who is it for?

Suspicion - Yuki Kaijura
This song actually reminds me a great deal of Envy x Al. Just... because. It's a short intrumental, but since it's by See Saw, you can bet on it sounding eerie yet strangely tender. Very music box-like.

Musiikin Ystävälliset Kasvot - CMX
Envy. Because it feels like him. XD The lovely hallowd translated the lyrics from Finnish for me, and considering it sounds like Envy to begin with, I think the lyrics lend themselves to Envy well: There was no home / No home at the end of the journey / To step in and be warm / (on the edge of the meadow comes a flicker / the long-dead bears darkness in a bowl) / The beast has not avenged - albeit in a cryptic manner.

Chop Suey - System of a Down
Envy. In fact, it reminded me so much of Envy, it took me a couple years to realize that when the song said Father into your hands I commend my spirit / Why have you forsaken me / In your eyes forsaken me, / In your thoughts forsaken me, / In your heart forsaken me it didn't mean someone's actual father (like Hohenheim) but God. Eh heh.

Image of the Invisible - Thrice
Homcunculi. We're more than carbon and chemicals / We are the image of the invisible / Free will is ours and we can't let go / Remove the cancer, take back your souls / We are the image of the invisible

Courage of the Wind - David Lanz
A piano solo that reminds me (too much) of Hughes. When the melody is playful, it's like Hughes, enjoying the company of his daughter, his friends, and his wife. When it takes a more somber turn it's Hughes being serious, and inevitably dying. This one is for kuchren (hence why it doesn't fit well with the other tracks XD).

If you take any songs, please comment so I know someone has. Thank you!

I'm grabbing Elenor Rigby and Homeward Bound; man these are songs I grew up with. People keep doing this to my head, too. I should make a FST...

But aren't they excellent? Beatles and S&G FTW.

I should make a FST...

You should! It's more fun that I thought it would be. :3

Gah! The time limit on the file is up! I haven't been on an internet connection where I could download it until now and the time limit's gone up. *is sad* Do you mind re-upping it? If it's not cool, I understand. Thanks. :)

I just went ahead and uploaded the entire .zip file, if that's okay. I'm not sure if it'll actually work, so if it doesn't it'd be no problem for me to upload the individual tracks tomorrow.

Again, thanks for your interest! :D

[dork] Yuki Kajiura was the one who composed 'Suspicion', not See-Saw. They just sing songs and Yuki was a part of their group. [/dork]

Anyway, thanks for sharing these songs ♥ I really do like songs that can easily remind you of your favorite fandoms.

Ooh, thanks for the correction; it makes me feel silly when I mix up artists but no one tells me, and later on I find out on my own. I shall gladly change it! <3

And glad you liked the FST. ;)

Snagged most of them; thanks! I'm to the point where I've managed to relate the majority of the stuff in my playlists to FMA, which delights my husband and annoys my non-anime friends to no end, because I randomly go "oooh, oh, this is __(insert char's name)__ song cause blah blah blah!" ^_^;
Kalliel: fireflykalliel on June 22nd, 2007 04:33 pm (UTC)
XD That's great. When I'm talking to my friends, if some random song comes on, I'll be all, "Hey! I know this song! It's Envy's song!" and of course, the will respond with the RL equivalent of "WTF are you talking about, you n00b? STFU."

Glad you enjoyed~

Cna I love you for including Eleanor Rigby? Not exactly the FMA association I have with it, but still relevant. And makes sense.
