XD and FMA totally deserves every award it won!
I'm really not clear on why Fruits Basket won Best Manga. It's cute, but not much more than that, in terms of everything from storytelling to technique. In my humble opinion, at least

Oh good god, no -- with respect you are so wrong about Fruits Basket. I'm just getting close to the end (Chapter 120) and it is seriously one of the most amazing/fucked up series ever. It's ... deceptively cute. And then comes all of the violence, abuse, mindfuckery, twisted love affairs, genderbending, etc.

I'm not disputing that Fruits Basket is a good series - I've read most of the manga myself, and it's a very intriguing story, with good characters. For me, though, it's lacking some things to be considered a really amazing series. I think the pacing isn't so good - too many volumes before the plot actually starts (or, for the people who would argue that those are important stories and such, I would say that if they give the impression of being extraneous, it means they might be. You could easily start reading the series from volume 3 or 4, and even skip around some after that, and follow the storyline fairly well, unlike some other series where something meaningful happens almost every chapter)
Some of the character development didn't ring too true to me either...and overall I felt that the technical details of drawing and frame-distribution could have been better.
It's a good series, I just personally wouldn't have given it a 'best manga' prize. :)

I liked it well enough, but I also wouldn't have given it "best manga," though that it IS pretty good from what I've read. I stopped reading around volume 11--my friend read on and told me allll about the "mindfuckery." ^^;

Yay but...
The first ever awards honored voice actors, directors and producers of American anime.

Correction:
Amrican Dubbings of Animes.

"American-Anime" would mean: 'anime-styled cartoon made in america' and as we know it is far from the same thing.

Yeah, like Totally Spies and Code Lyoko. I'm afraid "American-Anime" has a long way to go before anyone is even remotely interested in awards for those. Avatar is about the only American-Anime worth mentioning.
alchemy_girlalchemy_girl on February 25th, 2007 11:35 pm (UTC)
I don't think that they mean it that way. I think they just mean in "American Anime Awards" by honoring the great anime from Japan that has been dubbed for American audiences.

Does anyone know where I could get a copy of all nominees? I can't remember who I all voted for in some of these categories and it would be nice to go back and see which series/actors the winners were up against.
