Hm about Sonchou's fansubbing
Since I have never seen any of Sonchou's fansubs and downloaded only ANBU-AKeep's fansubs. Since ANBU-AKeep stop putting out the fansubs, my question is how good is the Sonchou's fansubbing?

I'm trying to decide if I should just watch the raws or watch Sonchou's.

I watched one of Sonchou's subs, for ep31. It's exactly the same as Keep/Anbu's, IMO. Though, I just had a preference to AKeep since I'm kind of on the team. >_>;

Now, I'm going to have to watch Sonchou's.

they are exactly the same, but they use 'alchemize' instead of 'transmute' and they use 'body alchemy' instead of 'human transmutation' and they called Yokuto Island 'Pleasure Island'

I swear, they MUST all be inside jokes. I mean pleasure island.. and we all know what a nightmare that island is, lol. Alchemize kind of sounds like MAXIMIZE! or something dumb; and body alchemy sounds just.. amusing. XD

I thought I was the only person who said "alchemize." >_> It's a fun word, ne? ^^;;

oh and don't forget
'Crimson alchemist' was translated to 'Nonpartisan Alchemist'
kuromitsukuromitsu on May 12th, 2004 03:20 am (UTC)
Yeah... where did that come from? o_O I mean, look up "guren" in any dictionary, you'll get "crimson". How did they come up with "nonpartisan"?

This makes me think they're translating from Chinese...

That's HILARIOUS! XD I might watch just for the quirky translations.

Alchemize is a cool word. Whenever I go to science class, my friends and I always say "Let's chemisize!" or rather, "Let's physicize!" since we're taking physics. Heh.

Well, as I've said before, ANBU-Keep had a few things off; two examples:
Full Metal Alchemist -> Fullmetal Alchemist.
Human Transmutation -> Flesh forging.

But, the terms are not important; it's the translation of the dialogue that is. As long as we know the official terms, we're all fine. ^-^

Sonchou's subs, despite the rap they get, are quite good. I have absolutely no problem with their quality; in fact I think they're great. I've downloaded the Sonchou sub instead of the AKeep sub many times.

XD So have I. But that was mostly because my codec wasn't working on ANBU's eps 24.

I mostly stuck to ANBU though, because it was quicker to Download ^^;;

No one is worse then this one group that subbed One Piece, they did horrible translations and timing was way off. They called Luffy, Ruffy. Named Ussop, Crook Bu. Sanji was Sunkist. horrible......

Well, technically, Luffy could be translated as Ruffy, but the rest of it is just madness. I have to agree, Sonchou's a lot better than some others.

hmm...Well my One Piece is fine, my 50 eps,2 movies and special. If you want the good subs, got to kaizoku fansubs (K-F)...the link is..http://kaizoku-fansubs.com/torrent/index.php

I've always prefered Sonchou's subs. I guess I started just because I was the most familiar with AnimeForever. I really like them. From the couple ANBU/A-Keep eps I saw they were pretty much the same, aside from romanization and a couple terms. I also liked how the wording in Sonchou's was, as opposed to ANBU/A-Keep's.

Hi, anychance anyone can pretty please tell me the link to the Senchou site / bittorrent links? All the links I've come across are switched off & there's a note that FMA is licenced. Or are they only planning to do IRC releases?
I need ep 31! X.x I got 78% of it from anime-keep prior to them all stopping the seed.

Sonchou are not so bad. Personally, I've been getting Anbu because they came out first, but the last couple of epsiodes Sonchou has gotten there first. And they are not such a bad subbing group.

In fact, playing through the opening they both aren't 100% correct on their lyrics fo UNDO and you really need to make a mixture of both the romanji they use to get it right, but Sonchou are actually more correct than the Anbu version in that area. So they aren't so bad :3

I think the smaller groups tend to automatically get a bad rap even if they're not worthy of it. More and more I tend to go with the smaller fansubbers, simply because most times they stick with a series even when it becomes licensed. And honestly, for the most part, I don't see any major differences in the translations and as long as I can get the gist of what's happening, that's fine with me. I'd rather get to watch an entire series through, then have 100% total accuracy on every little peice of detail.

Though, when FMA first came out I downloaded Anbu and Sonchou(which was still with AFF at that time). I went with Sonchou, simply because in the first few episodes, Anbu called the Philospher's Stone the Sorcerer's Stone (and it made me think of Harry Potter and I loathe, HP), plus there were names that didn't seem quite spelled right.

I'm not dogging Anbu or any other big name fansubber by any means, just voicing my irritation with how the smaller groups tend to get dissed.

Anbu does an excellent job with Naruto and when it becomes licensed and is dropped...I don't even want to be around when the uproar in that fandom starts.
