"It's great to be back!" Winry said, leaned against the sink after she was done cleaning up the kitchen. She had come back to Resembool for a few days in a very deserved vacation. Or so Mr. Garfield said, though the way he was acting with that other guy around was very suspicious. Either way, she got to talk a lot with his grandmother about everything that was going on with their lives, and that's what really mattered.
Pinako was already asleep, but Winry, far too excited to follow the old woman's example, went to sit down on the couch and think about how much she had miss everything around her in the time she'd been on Rush Valley.
Suddenly, a young man opened the door and closed it up behind him, very loudly. His face was pale and tense, as if he were very scared. Before Winry could say anything to him, he went to the window and stared at the road outside.
By instinct, Winry got up and raised a wrench over her head. "Who are you?" she asked.
The tall and blond stranger turned over her, his back pressed against the wall, and looked at her with pleading eyes. "Winry! Please, hide me! He's coming and knows I came here!"
"What are you talking about? Who are you?"
The young man blinked. "Winry, it's me, Al. Alphonse Elric."
Winry lowered the wrench. "Al?"
Winry covered her mouth with her hand. That guy did look something like the little boy he remembered, only taller. And his eyes... those were Al's eyes, the eyes in her memories and in the pictures on her grandmother's wall. Winry felt her own tearing up while going towards him. She took his hand and looked at him from head to toe before hugging him. "Oh, Al! I'm so happy!" she said, crying on his chest.
"Me too," he said, stroking her hair soothingly.
"Where's Ed?" Winry asked after a couple of minutes, as soon as she noticed the oddness of having only one Elric in her living room.
Al tensed up again at her words. "He must be on his way here. Please, you have to hide me for a few days, Winry!" he added with a small voice.
"Why? Did you guys have a fight?"
Al shook his head. "Not exactly, but—"
"OPEN UP, YOU FILTHY TRAITOR!" Ed screamed from outside.
Al jumped behind Winry, who was about to ask what in the world was going on when Ed kicked the door down.
"I knew you'd be here!" Ed said.
"What is going on, Edward?" Winry managed as she felt Al's fingers dig into her shoulders.
"That traitor doesn't deserve your help, Winry!" Ed roared. "After everything I went through for him, he dares to be TALLER than me!"
Winry threw her wrench to Ed's face out of reflex.
