That's not a bad pic!
Color me clueless, but what program/tools were you using for the tv-effect (or so i presume the lines are) and the, uh... overall shape of the icon, with the curved edges?
kind of a dick, if that's what elusive meansprovetheworst on January 1st, 2004 10:30 pm (UTC)
Mind, I'm not the original poster, so I can't say for sure just what they did, but...
with Photoshop..
for the rounded edges, I'd say... draw the shape of the outline in Photoshop on their own layer, and put the image you want to use in a layer below it. Then, delete everything from the image that goes outside of your outline. (don't have anything on the 'background' layer!!) You should see a grey-and-white checkered pattern, which means that there is nothing there, so it will be transparent. Go to File --> Export --> GIF export (I think it's something like that.). That will let you save it as a gift, and therefore save the transparency.. if that makes sense??
Not sure about the 'tv-effect' ... ^^;;;
Hope it has, if not you can IM me at KaitouCheckers and I can try to explain better?

Ooh, I used Corel 9 for everything ^^
The lines are simple gray lines with transparency set to 50% (or was it 80% @_@?).
As for the outline I traced a white square around the edges, but with the corner rounding set to 20. And you just pick the color on the outside to be the one transparent in the gif ^^.

(And, on a side and very random note, I only keep using Corel for all this kinda stuff cause I'm a big masochist who got used to it and can't do any decent thing in Photoshop).

If you have Paint Shop Pro 5 and above, all you have to do for the 'TV effect' is go to "Effects" --> "Texture Effects" --> "Blinds". Set the blinds for a space of 1 pixel between each line and 1 pixel width for the line, pick the color black for your line, and set the opacity at 50%. I'm an oddball and use PSP instead of Photoshop for the most part~
