FMA in english?
Hi everyone, before I get to the point Happy New Year to all.

Now to the point. Tokyopop is doing a survey on which Manga they should do next. I just know that Manga lovers + FMA obsessers are all thinking the same thing....

Just fill it out and maybe we'll get lucky.

Never know if Tokyopop will actually do it but its worth a try.

But what if they mess it up :P

Well, I must say that everything I voted for when that survey was up before has been licensed.. (Saiyuki, D.N. Angel by them.. and Viz got Basara)
I already voted for FMA. Tokyopop hasn't messed anything up in a while (even if the dialogue for Gravitation occasionaly makes me cringe).

I'll stick with my chinese manga... seeing that I never buy from tokyopop anyways..and counting how many series I gave up on due to cruddy translations. __^__||

Yeah, I believe in TokyoPop. They've done right by me before. My only other choice would be Viz, just for range of distribution, but then, they already have Hikaru no Go and Angel Sanctuary...

Sticking to the Jap manga... X_X;; Tokyopop had successfully destroyed many of the mangas I like from translation errors, name changes, and printing/book binding quality....

I'd be happier if VIZ got it. >_>;
kind of a dick, if that's what elusive meansprovetheworst on January 1st, 2004 10:03 pm (UTC)

YOU may wish to stick with the original, but what about those of us that don't know Japanese, which I think will be most of us. Your vote will help us, as well as introduce others to this wonderful series.

I voted... ^_^;; I havn't cringed too horribly at what I've seen Tokyopop do so far, although I do agree that some of the Gravitation dialogue makes me ho-hum. I do applaud their attempt to make cultural references that Westerners are more familiar with...but sometimes they fall flat on their faces =_=

I also voted for Yami no Matsuei...I wonder if that'll ever make its way here as well. :3

I voted a few weeks ago as my #1 choice. Yes, Tokyopop does tend to make a few name changes and grammar mistakes, but from the manga that I have I managed to let them pass. I would like to see FMA liscensed some time soon. ^^

NO NOT MY YAMI NO MATSUEI!! ;_; EVIL PERSON! *throws a shoe at whoever suggested it* okay not really, just joking.. ._.

Tokyopop has a nasty habit of trying to americanize mangas.. hence changing names.. and stuff like that..

*catches shoe* >_<;;

Desperate times call for desperate measures...and although I have the ability to read YnM on my own, I'm lazy ;_;

XD I knew it wouldn't be long before you answered this one! For my part, I don't want the manga translated yet because manga in England costs £7.50 a hit at its cheapest, and there are only about five shops in the country that actually stock it. I've heard tales of America, where the streets are paved with che-ese (and manga), but the differences between anime distribution in our respective countries tell the tale pretty clearly. (If anyone wants a more detailed rant on the differences in distribution between the UK and the US, let me know and I'll be happy to oblige!)

The other reason I don't want it translated just yet is because it might draw attention to the anime. If licensing messes up my fifty-two week run of fansubs, I will NOT be a happy bunny. Through sheer ignorance, I'm less bothered about slight translation dodginess (although I'm sure it'll bug me a lot more when I start my Japanese degree) but scanlations are quicker, cheaper and draw a lot less attention to the anime, so I'd rather the licensing weren't for a long while yet.

I'm all for supporting translation in order to make anime and manga more popular to the masses - and as a result, more mainstream and easier to get a hold of, hopefully with higher standards attached - but not at the expense of my own enjoyment of said series without having to wait years for the US to remember that the UK exists then spending half my wages on it. That's not a sacrifice I'm prepared to make.
