One! Two! Three!

To every broken heart in here
Love was once a part, but now it's disappeared
She told me that it's all a part of the choices that your making
Even when you think you're right
You have to give to take

Edward Elric sat on the hotel bed, packing his things. This was the life he chose. In trying to revive his mother, having to give to take he’d chosen this life. This blessing, this tainted, bloodstained soul.

But there's still tomorrow
Forget the sorrow
And I can be on the last train home
Watch it pass the day
As it fades away
No more time to care
No more time, today

Winry. Granny. He’d promised he’d be home. He promised. Sure, he couldn’t do it as often as he liked. Sitting on the train, which, the obnoxious porter had told him, was the only train going to Lisenbool for a few days. With all these villages, towns and cities all over Amestris, he could only bring Al home for so long, so they could get back. Back to his job.

But we sing
If we're going nowhere
Yeah we sing
If it's not enough
And we sing
Sing without a reason
To ever fall in love

Ed didn’t remember how it felt to love. To love someone. Falling in love. You aren’t born loving your parents. He remembered falling in love with his mom. He could even just remember loving his- No. He wouldn’t think about that sick bastard now. He wouldn’t think about him-ever, if he could.

I wonder if you're listening
Picking up on the signals
Sent back from within
Sometimes it feels like I don't really know whats going on
Time and time again it seems like everything is wrong in here

When he was younger, he used to pray-Ed, heathen among heathens, used to pray. Pray for his dad to come back, and he had really thought he would. But when his mom died, he just-he figured He wasn’t listening. God didn’t care.

But there's still tomorrow
Forget the sorrow
And I can be on the last train home
Watch it pass the day
As it fades away
No more time to care
No more time, today

When he was on trains, sometimes he felt excited. Really and truly excited; excited to be going to new places and meeting new people. Other times, when he was on trains, he just sat there and meditated, pondered even. Like the first time he left that town where someone who had the same passion for his passion had viciously murdered Nina sweet blue-eyed Nina, alchemy, he had been disgusted with himself. For hours he just though about quitting alchemy all together. But then he’d realized he couldn’t have kept his promise that way. And now, when he reclined on those padded leather seats, the only thing he felt was the way The Great Bastard in the Sky felt of him-apathetic.

But we sing
If we're going nowhere
Yeah we sing
If it's not enough
And we sing
Sing without a reason
To ever fall in love

Where was he going today? He thought. No where. His life was just an endless journey from Nowhere to Nowhere. If it wasn’t for Al, for his loving little tin-can brother, he hadn’t a doubt in his mind that he would’ve-would’ve—cooked his goose. His own goose.

But we sing if we're going nowhere
Yeah we sing
if it's not enough
And we sing
Sing without a reason to ever fall in love

Why did he feel that craving? That craving for love. Is that why he was in such pain when he lost those people he’d almost loved as family- Hughes, Maria, Nina- why he sucked love from people like a baby at it’s mother’s teat? And why did it seem he’d lost everyone he’d loved like that? Even Al wasn’t really there anymore. He was-was- just a shell now. Just a tin can with a soul trapped in there and a little smear of blood.

But we sing
If we're going no where
Yeah we sing
If it's not enough
And we sing
Sing with out a reason to never fall in love
To never fall in love again

That day, Edward Elric resolved never to love again- he didn’t want to cause any more people to be lost to him….
