Technical Question - Please bear with me!
I apologize for the off-topic post, but I was hoping someone would help me, and it is kind of FMA related.

Since I dislike leeching others pretty icons, I'm working on one of my own. I tihnk it looks nice, but I can't get it down to 40kb, which LJ tells me is the maximum size. I've sized it down to 100x100, and saved it as a jpeg, but I still can't get it down below 80 kb. Anyone have any tips? Because I'm seeing some really pretty icons that are really aweseome and yet are, like, 12 kb. So, anyone who can help me gets a hug and cup of ramen. Thanks!

Are you using Photoshop? Have you tried their 'Save for web' option and killed it until it's small enough?

And no 100 by 100 jpg should be that big...

You should try saving as a GIF. Especially if there's text in it. Text on a JPG comes out all fuzzy.

If it's that big, it could be that your resolution is waaaaaaay high. Really high resolution will increase the size of your file just as much as actual pixel size will (maybe even more.) So if saving it as a different file type doesn't help, try bringing down the resolution of the pic until it's a reasonable filesize.

I KNOW no 100x100, one-shot jpeg should be this big. Unfortunately, it is.

I've tried following your suggestions, but the most I've been able to bring it down to is about 65 kb. I am thoroughly flummoxed. And help would, again, be very appreciated.

I will never understand Photoshop as long as I live. Or computers in general.

I downloaded the icon (Thanks so much, by the way), and saved it as a gif, and the Mac was STILL telling me it was almost 90 kb. But I thought "what the hell, I'll upload it anyway." And now it's working!

Go figure.

I'm not quite sure what that was all aobut, but thank you all for your help, anyway!

I use Adobe Photoshop 7. And I tend to save my icons under JPG/Quality 80/Optimized. Most of my icons (100x100) are below 10kb. I hope this helps.
