question
Okay...This is really bugging me. What year was Ed Elric born? Just to clear something that's been plaguing my mind recentally.

The reason i'm asking is because of the movie.
Amanda Marie Orchardamandaorchard on June 28th, 2006 01:00 am (UTC)
Now that REALLY confuses me...

1899. Al was born in 1900. Mustang and Hughes were born in 1885 and Hawkeye was born in 1889.

I didn't realise Roy was in his early 30's for the latter half of the series. I'm impressed, makes it much more believeable.

He's 29 when Ed's 15, so....

Ed ends the anime at 16, I believe, and is 18 in the movie, so Roy's in his early thirties... following the same basic timeline for the manga, Ed is just about or already seventeen, so Roy's hit his thirties.

There was an omake where Roy was bitching that he was already 30, not 29. XD

Ed is currently "almost 16" in the manga. :/

Hm, I thought more time had passed. I guess it didn't take the month+ or so to get to Xerxes and back, and a few other bits I thought took longer. I guess Xerxes only took a few weeks.
Cynthia: Journeycsakuras on June 29th, 2006 12:31 am (UTC)
In Chapter 34, only a month had passed since Hughes was killed. And I'm guessing that all the events of Volume 9-11 took a couple of weeks. Like with the most recent chapters (45-58 is only two days), many things happen in a short amount of time.
The Indomitable Sambruisedgarden on June 29th, 2006 01:14 am (UTC)
Ah, okay. Been a while since I read the whole stretch so I wasn't sure, and I'm still missing Volumes 3 and 4 from my collection so I've neglected to re-read the others till they arrive on my doorstep. I still keep relating Amestris to a larger scale than it really it - my brain still tries to relate it to our world Germany and subsrquent countries, so I'm thinking travelling to Xerxes and such would take a lot longer as it would in the real world. Why I'm thinking like that, I have no idea, since I know it's only a couple days from East to Central and such.

That and I keep hoping Ed is getting closer and closer to legal. :p

You're the one at camp, right? How's that going? (And is it just me, or has the site been down for a few days?)
Cynthia: Culturecsakuras on June 29th, 2006 03:12 am (UTC)
Yeah, the countries are laid out pretty simple. That, and Amestris does seem pretty small...though we've only really seen the East and South in the manga so far...

I'm not the one at camp; that's Umeko. I noticed that the site is down, but there's nothing we can do about it at the moment. ^^;
The Indomitable Sambruisedgarden on June 29th, 2006 03:16 am (UTC)
Ah, okay. And I'm not worried about the site, there's about 14 days till the release, and since (one of :p) you is at camp, you'll be late, so the site'll be up and kicking by then anyway.

But, yeah. my mind tends to mix the anime and manga sometimes and I forget that they haven't been to Xenotime outside the anime and novels, and if I remember right, that's west of Central? ... Eh, no matter. My brain is trying to set everything into a logical order and there's just not enough to really dot hat yet. ^^;
Misa-chanwunkpower on June 29th, 2006 04:55 am (UTC)
I'm also guessing it's only been a few months since, in the current time of the manga, Black Hayate is still a puppy (albeit a large one, at this point.) I'd guess it's almost been a year or so, at this point, so Ed should be sixteen/almost sixteen.
Amanda Marie Orchardamandaorchard on June 28th, 2006 04:28 pm (UTC)
okay,now explain to me: Ed in the move is 18 ne? well...if the movie is during 1923,wouldn't ed be like...24?
»›she's an odd one ; or so I'm told‹«: rizaflowersmeruberri on June 28th, 2006 07:28 pm (UTC)
I thought the movie was set in 1921...but that would still make him like 21-22. I guess the two worlds must have different flows of time, or something.

To give the same explanation as last time:

The confusion with Ed's birth year has to do with the difference in dates. Our dating system now is based in the Anno Domini system (based on the Birth of Christ), while Ed's is probably based on some other sort of significant date based a few years after the Birth of Christ. Thus, the differences in years.

If you remember, when he goes through the Gate in 1914, he ends up at the end in Munich, 1921 (despite going through to London, 1916 the first time). So it actually makes a lot of sense that Ed would be 100 in 2005, if there's a seven year difference, and he was born in late 1898/early 1899 in his own timeline.

As for the season, Ed seems to be born in late winter/early spring, when it's possible for it to be rainy, snowy, or absolutely gorgeous. Just depends on what area of the world you're in/what sort of year it'll be, weather-wise.

And yes, I know that I think too much about these things. ^^;; I'm a geek at times.
