When I'm bored, I tend to notice weird things...

Since they've been posted so much, I would assume everyone's seen the Kids OVA, but I'll cut this just in case...

So we all know it's Ed's 100th birthday, yadda yadda....

Outside, the grass is green, and the trees are in bloom...so it's either mid-late spring or summer.

But wait...Ed's birthday is in the winter!  WTFH?

So, plausible reasonings?  I doubt they're south of the equator.  Do we have a plot hole on our hands, or is the Gate screwy with the timeline between worlds and Ed just adjusted his birthday accordingly or something like that?

And other comments regarding it while I'm here....

He's in damn good shapre for 100 too...still got color in his hair even (curses mother's lineage for the prematurely greying genes....and ironically, my dad's side is the type that DOESN'T get grey; he has very few at 50, and even HIS dad still didn't have too much greying into his 70's...)

Not to mention that automail is 80+ years old, and still functining...Winry would be proud XD

In the past, I've seen people wonder how his grandkids are such little look-alikes.  My mother cousins daughter whom I met like 10 years ago at a reuinion, looked EXACTLY like me.  If it weren't for the nametags, no one but our parents could tell us apart.  We were only blood related though our GREAT Grandparents.  I also look very much like my father, who isn't even related to her at all.  So while it's not exactly common, you CAN have little clones running in families, even generations later and with mixed bloodlines.

Okay, so it's a longshot to have it happen like that all at once, but it's anime...they break the rules about this crap all the time.

I'll shut my trap now.

Yes, I picked that out too! But if Edward was 100, wouldn't he have outgrown his automail or something..?

Ahh, ramblings.♥

...We all know Ed wouldn't have grown. He'll forever be a shrimp. Heheh. xB

And yeah, the family-clones thing. I have a cousin down in Florida who is...er. About as distant a relative as one can get while still being considered blood-related. And we're nearly identicle, even if we're just barely 5% blood related. It's creepy. So yeah. Maybe the chibi-clones aren't too strange after all.

You missed the miltary-gang kids playing the TCG (Roy vs. Breda with the rest watching), and the Hughes look-a-like directing the trio to their destination =^_^=

And, if Ed married someone in our world, why does one of the kids look like Winry? And why no photos/mention of his wife?

He's also still living with Al.
Grygongrygon on June 27th, 2006 11:18 pm (UTC)
that was my favorite part- spying boy Roy there. he just so adorable! :) and Hughes... the same age tho, not a kid... not fair! unless the kid Roy IS Roy'S kid?

also not fair Ed didn't end up with Roy. *pout*

I don't think those OVAs are intended to be canon at all, I think they're just a "what-if?" on the part of the animators. I don't think it would be logical that Ed's automail would still be working 80 years later without proper maintenance, and you're absolutely right about the birthday thing -- the only possible explaination is that seasons are reversed on the other side of the Gate (i.e., it's winter there when it's summer here).

I think that the logical thing to say about Ed's birthday would be that the seasons are reversed scross the Gate. As for the automail, since it's the present time, maybe someone has invented a new arm for him....?
jantra on June 27th, 2006 02:39 pm (UTC)
My guesses on that OVA:

The picture is either of Heindrich or, more probably, Alphonse. My other assumption is that it is Alphonse, and he is dead. Hence why Ed is so depressed.

Maybe Ed learned to fix his own automail?

The birthday thing is a very good point...
Tsuki: edwhattsukiruby on June 27th, 2006 03:41 pm (UTC)
No! Alphonse dead...-faints- Those are some good points about that OVA. I'd like to know, when is Edward's birthday? And if possible Al's? Also, I think it's definitely strange that there were movie posters and magazines of Fullmetal Alchemist in the OVA if all those things really happened...still I thought it was great. ^_^
Kasumi Lovegoodkasumicc on June 27th, 2006 03:44 pm (UTC)
My guesses:

The OVA can be taking place in winter. I don't know, but at least where I live, there are sunny days like that in winter :D Does it say in some moment that's really summer? Maybe my supposition is wrong...^^'

About the Automail, and the Winry clone...I like to think that Ed found Alter!Winry xDDDD

About Alphonse dead...I'm pretty sure the kids said something about "uncle Alphonse" :P

takarifreaktakarifreak on June 27th, 2006 10:39 pm (UTC)
You can have sunny days in winter, yes, but deciduous trees do not have leaves in full bloom in winter. Plus everyone is dressed wamrly. Around here, even when we have really nice winter days, no one tends to dress for summer; but then again, around here the weather can change in 5 minutes without warning.

I think they do say something about Al, but I have NO idea what, seeing how my japanese vocabulary consists of fewer words than toes and fingers I have.
hotomihotomi on June 27th, 2006 05:19 pm (UTC)
It was obvious that he was living in Japan.....and yeah what´s up with the FMA posters everywere?!?!?! And you are right Ed was in great shape(his nose was horrible...like Hoheneheim´s eww)...and I also think Al´s death....NOOOOOO
shake up!!! shake up!!!badninja on June 27th, 2006 05:24 pm (UTC)
Also, technically, I don't think he would be 100 years old in the year they set it?
Mari: Soul Cast To the Sea - butterfly_iconskaitou_marina on June 27th, 2006 05:32 pm (UTC)
The articles that predated the release of the OVAs said that Ed was living in Japan. Also, Al isn't dead, as he'd sent a present along with the children to Ed for his birthday XDDDD;;;;

I like your theory about his birthday though. I was thinking before that the studio had just screwed up XDDDDDDDD
hotomihotomi on June 27th, 2006 11:27 pm (UTC)
So Al´s not death hmm? Then why doesn´t he live with Ed ? ( I bet their wives are death...)

I was thinking all that too. After watching it I sat there like "Wtf?" for ten minutes.
Another thing to add: Edward, in his world, was born in the VERY late 1800s or the VERY early 1900s. It says that he turns 100 in 2005, right? I know for a fact that he wasn't born in 1905, because it's 1914 in his world in the Fullmetal Vs. Flame episode. And I doubt he was nine.
... Like stated. WTF?
Amberladyamber on June 27th, 2006 07:08 pm (UTC)
That has to do with the difference in dates. If you remember, when he goes through the Gate in 1914, he ends up at the end in Munich, 1921 (despite going through to London, 1916 the first time). So it actually makes a lot of sense that Ed would be 100 in 2005, if there's a seven year difference, and he was born in late 1898/early 1899 in his own timeline.

As for the season, Ed seems to be born in late winter/early spring, when it's possible for it to be rainy, snowy, or absolutely gorgeous. Just depends on what area of the world you're in/what sort of year it'll be, weather-wise.

...yes, I think too much about these things. ^^;;

Eh. Anime tends to bend the laws of reality. It's up to the fans to find a way for it all to make sense. So, err.

Two Words: Global Warming. xD And Winry is proud. Very proud. What, did you think she was dead? OF COURSE NOT. She's still alive and kickin', and she knows. She knows Ed's automail is still in perfect condition, because she designed it that way because she's that awesome.

Eh... I pretty sure all those reasons you mentioned is why I didn't like the Kids episode of the OVA. Out of all four, that was my least favorite. It just didn't make ANY SENSE. What were they thinking?! X_x [/two cents]
hotomihotomi on June 28th, 2006 08:58 pm (UTC)
Sure I think the same

Maybe Amestris is in the southern hemisphere? Ed would be born in the summer months, with snow around.

But Drachma is north from Amestris, and is snowier and colder. If Amestris were in the southern hemisphere, Drachma would be nearer the equator, and hence warmer...

Blah, I give up. It's a plot hole. The automail, the time of the year; all plotholes. BONES specializes in those.
