This is torture! Wrrryyyyy?!
Why is Viz Media making us wait 3 months between each U.S. release of the manga? That is evil.

I got all excited last night and have been excited up until about 5 minutes ago... I went to Viz' site for the new releases and THOUGHT I was reading that vol. 8 comes out on Jun 18. It actually comes out Jul 18th but me and my sleep deprived eyes thought we saw Jun.

But why so long between each release?
friedbrain on June 17th, 2006 05:59 pm (UTC)
well, fret not and get to a bookstore. because i bought my vol. 8 at a borders two weeks ago.
Sarah: aru-arugundamnook on June 17th, 2006 07:07 pm (UTC)
You know, not every bookstore has Vol. 8 yet. I'm not sure how Borders have their copies yet because NO ONE ELSE is gonna have theirs until mid July. And not everyone has a Borders in their town. >.>

Because the Japanese have to wait four months between their releases for this series?

Maybe it's because I'm so behind or because I still remember the days graphic novels were released every six months, but I don't think three months is that long to wait considering all the retouching they have to do.

The most logical reason is because it's not their only series and so they don't pull a Pokemon and catch up too fast with the Japanese.
Ipity: Riza showeripitydaf00l on June 17th, 2006 06:46 pm (UTC)
I remember those days also. >.> Part of the reason why I missed the end of the Sailor Moon Manga because I ended up moving to where I couldn't find it in a bookstore...and they went out of print..

Ah well..like everything else..it will probably be brought back.

Try living out in Hawaii. Apparently the shipments of manga are being swam across the Pacific b/c it usually takes us an additional month to 2 months to get volumes.

I make me want to cry!! DX Everyone else on lj is, like, "yay! i got my manga!" and stuff, and I'm out here, twidling my thumbs on the beach.

But you're at the beach! (Mind, when you get it, you can lounge on the beach reading your copy of FMA Vol. 8)

Because they're the devil, and they get sick pleasure knowing all of us are going insane waiting between releases.

I'd read on this and other FMA comms that #8 is out already, but when I called my local bookstore last night the guy was like "Uh, it's still a pre-order. It doesn't come out til next month." I was thinking "WTF? That doesn't make any sense"
Grygongrygon on June 18th, 2006 07:12 am (UTC)
we have 3 Borders in my town. i've checked them out too and there's no 8. they are always in stock 1-7 though. they're really good about keeping their manga shelfs full, if 8 was out they'd have it.

i think people our pulling our tails... but then maybe not.

I don't mind waiting 3 months or so for a manga release.

I mind the fact that in Japan it is on vol 12(?) and we're still on volume 8. ):
angsty lemon uke: [archer tea]wabisuke on June 17th, 2006 07:16 pm (UTC)
They started releasing those in books in 2001 or 2002. America started releasing the English version in May 2005.

If anything, we're going far too fast. :B

I too bought my Vol 8 at Borders (I love Borders!) 2 weeks ago along with the FMA profile book. But I think if I recall reading Vol 8 that the next issue is due out in September! Aaargh!
Grygongrygon on June 18th, 2006 07:16 am (UTC)
guess i need to call my borders and ask them what's up. everyone says theirs has it already. i got 3 borders in my town and their online inventory says they don't ahve 8... but they also only list a few of the others when i KNOW 2 of the 3 borders always has 1-7, every vol, stocked.

i'll call that 3rd one i never visit.

I hope Viz keeps FMA at 3 months apart for as long as possible- when they catch up the wait will either become like 5 or 6 months, or unpredictable, like with other series that are now caught up. It's yucky.

I dunno why Borders get their new stuff so early, but in my experience, most stores will shelve and sell books whenever they arrive. But Vol 8 has yet to show up in Borders anywhere even remotely near me.
Foxdiseased_panda on June 17th, 2006 08:15 pm (UTC)
Er...FMA isn't the only series Viz releases quarterly like that. If they kept releasing FMA every other month like they have, we'd catch up with the Japanese releases really quickly and then have to wait even longer for each new volume. :O

I saw vol. 8 at Waldenbooks this morning... >_>
havocmangawiphavocmangawip on June 17th, 2006 08:48 pm (UTC)
They had it at Walden Books on Wednesday, in a piddly, craptastic town in Wisconsin. They were just putting it and the Manga guide book out.

Sarah: eh? (adaneko)gundamnook on June 17th, 2006 10:30 pm (UTC)
Which town in Wisconsin? My Waldens in Appleton said they weren't getting it until mid next month. O.o

Where I live, they don't sell Fullmetal manga. -_- They got a whole bunch of other stuff, but no Fullmetal. The only volumes I have are one and two, and I got them on my trip to New York last year. :P i so pathetic dur...

I think the reason it take so long is because they don't want to catch up, too. It's a problem I'm thinking anime/manga involved people don't want to run into. I guess it's like a necessary evil.
Catie: [FMA] Whyglcatystorm on June 17th, 2006 09:50 pm (UTC)
The reason you see volume 8 out in some stores and not in other stores is because there is no monetary penalty for putting manga releases out before their release date. Some stores will put out the books as soon as they ship and some will wait until the release date. Simple as that.

You have to wait at least 4 months for Dark Horse to release their version of Trigun Maximum. It dosn't help that the series is on temporary hiatis in Japan, either. ¬¬ Be happy that VIZ is releasing a vol every 3 months.
Tokyopop is also doing the same thing with Samurai Deeper Kyo and Saiyuki Reload. I only collect so many hard copies of manga!

Not to mention that Dark Horse is usually late by an extra month to their already far-between releases. ~_~; It's extremely irritating.

The way I see it, if I can wait 3-4 years for each Harry potter release, I can wait 2-3 months for FMA. My Barns & Noble usually puts everything on the shelf early, anyway. I remember seeing Volume 7 a month before it was due to be released.

*shrug* If you really can't wait, why not buy another series as well? I follow three that are all still ongoing (even in Japan), and between them I'm never without something to read.
Grygongrygon on June 18th, 2006 07:27 am (UTC)
i am reading several series. *g* i just want FMA cause i'm an FMA crack head. need my fix.

The Borders in my area doesn't have it yet. I checked yesterday.

Then again, this is Katrinaland...there's a lot of things that aren't up to date here yet.
