Cosplay Question
Hi, I'm planning on making two cosplays. One of Human!Al and one of Munich!Ed. It's my first cosplay so I'd appreciate advice on fabrics to use. Specifically for Al's shirt and Ed's vest. Thanks!

XD I'm making those too ^_^ I'm not gonna tell you what I'm using (no offense) but I'll give you some advice: Nothing shiny for Edo. It's set in the depression, remember? I hate seeing shiny satin vests when people do him in his Munich outfit because it's just not right for a person of his status (poor) at that time (depression/no food/ect). Al could possibly have something shiny, but I'd advise against it. SOmething heavy, with a good drape/hang weight would be best, in my opinion. Anything but broadcloth D:

Anyways, good luck!

*blink blink* Satin vests? That is weird. Thanks for the advice!

It IS weird, isn't it? But I've seen it! (and on other depression-era costumes, and it makes me cringe each time, especially when its made with plastic-based fabrics. Its so sad T_T)

No problem! ^_^

Ey, it's the cute Ed.

*Pinches, then lets you know he's Discarded from DA. If that..wasn't obvious.*

Goodluck with the costume.

We Eds -need- more Human!Als wandering about.

XD #^___^#Oh awesome!!

I added you to my friends list, I hope you don't mind ^__^

We do, we do! Thats why I made my suster do Human!Al, though she loves Aru like whoa so it wasn't hard to make her agree ^___^ If you'll look at her his of FMA cosplays, they're almost ALL versions of Al ^__^ (its on my cosplay to do list thing pinned in my journal).

heh, It's my sister doing the Human!Al costume as well. I forced her to watch the movie and she fell in love.

Don't forget to look for stuff in op shops! If you're lucky, you can find stuff at much the same price as you'd be paying for the material to make it...

Salvation Army op shops in particular always have some of their stuff at half-price. (In Australia anyway...)

i haven't done either of them, but i think some heavy cotton drill would work for Ed and the same for Al... They'll need something durable and warm and that seems to be the best choice ^^;;

I'm using a rather heavy twill for my Munich!Ed vest, and used a similar fabric for my Amestris!Ed jacket, which could also work for Cosplay!Al's shirt. Otherwise, I'd suggest a medium-weight cotton of some sort, and I highly recommend using extra-wide double fold bias tape for the edging. It gives you a really nice finished edge with pretty straight lines for almost no work. ^_^

Like Vicemage, I'd suggest meduim weight cotton ^_^
I'm also working on my Movie!Al cosplay so I hope that both of us will make it through fine =3 :D
