Art Theft Website
Yeah, this stuff again. The site is Anime Galleries, and I've seen quite a bit of uncredited stuff in there, including the FMA Kitties. It's not so well arranged, I ran several searches, and didn't recognize everything, but I did find a couple of offenders...

This was the biggest one, with the FMA kitties and several other pieces I recognize at least vaguely.

This has one I recognize and a few that look like fanart from somewhere or another.

This has just a couple familiar ones.

I know there's things I didn't catch, though... Any rate, the site's TOS does state that claiming someone else's work is against the rules (in here). There's pretty specific guidelines for reporting in there.

I never understood taking someone's work and claiming it as your own... -_- By the way, I've been working/coughing up a lung recently so I apologize for not responding to your last comment--I think it was on your journal though. Anyway, I'm trying to figure out when to go to the doctor, but for now...sleep. How have you been?
vicemagevicemage on April 9th, 2006 06:08 am (UTC)
Heh, yeah, that was on my journal, and I still owe you instructions for onigiri. ^^ I've been slacking on posting the past couple days. >.< Hope you're feeling better!

where exactly does anyone claim someone else's work as their own? it just looks like someone uploaded an FMA picture folder from their desktop. big deal.

"and gives you 10 megs of space for your own albums, so you can store your image work, and share it with others."

The idea is that the galleries are supposed to be for fanart (I doubt a single user has their own fanart in their galleries), and art is posted by the owners, who can then control the use of it.

Also, the art is not credited back to the original user (outside a few I found that were clearly swiped from dA or other sites that store the image using the title and artist name).

I only recognize a few of the pics, but then again, I'm just skimming.

In response to the question though - it says on the very bottom of the page, in fine print:

All images are copyright of their respective owners, no copyright infringement is intended or implied. All images in personal albums are under the ownership of the album owners, and we take no responsibility for what may be contained therein, though they will be monitored for general obscenity, and copyright infringement. Site Layout, Anime Galleries dot Net and all other items not in public domain copyright 2004 Kaitou Ace

In other words, by posting it in their personal albums they are claiming it as their own, intentionally or not. I am *vaguely* familiar with the site, and, if it's the one I'm thinking of, there are general galleries for each series that work not your own is uploaded to - not the personal folders.

This belongs to PaintBrushPlushie.

This belongs to waterlilly.

This belongs to Hiruka00.

This and this belongs to ryo-hakkai.

This belongs to dejichan.

This, this and this, I know who does them, but not off the top of my head.

Those are the ones I can spot.

o__O Hmmm, I looked in my favorites on deviantart and that's who it says did it. Unless waterlilly is an art thief...
umi_mikazukiumi_mikazuki on April 9th, 2006 07:28 am (UTC)
No, she's not. waterlilly is just her deviantart name.

the first and last one from the bottom line are stolen from the site "the knights" [here]

The art theft there is completely out of hand, and if you want to warn them you would have to comment on every pic -__-

This stuff happens, and unfortunately it has caused many fansites and artists to close down their sites/stop posting art. It's especially dumb when Japanese artists feel they need to close down their sites because they have discovered that people(who they can't warn because of language barriers) on the net are stealing their stuff.

Remember, watermark your art!

You draw the kitties? That's great! I love your little breed analysis too, but I've never been able to find the Winry and Ed kitty profiles. I weep. ;.;

On a latter note, I don't think s/he was intending to steal the art, s/he probably just wanted to share it with all her/his friends on an online folder. This is shown by the anime offical art and screen shots she has uploaded. Anyone with a brain can see those are not hers/his. And the boy/girl never says "This took x amount of time to draw, it was so hard, this is sooo mine!!!1111one" so I really don't mind it, even though she neglected the rules of the site. So I say mail her/him and tell then what they did, and inform them to make his/her own site to post the art, tripod is free and *relatively* pain free, great for gallery sites.

I'm done blabbing now XD Just my two cents.

This one belongs to my friend Bii. It even has her signature on top. --; I can recognize a few others, but can't remember who drew them. I know it's people on dA, though.
