SUMMARY: How do you treat a piece of flesh offered up from a foreign land if you have never been trained in morality?
Truthfully, Xing, for many centuries and generations, enjoyed their geographical integrity. They enjoyed it so much, in fact, that they only recently opened up visa applications for their own people, but not for Amestrians. It took quite a while for the Amestris government to set up diplomatic relations with Xing, and even then, it was only with a smaller province of Amestris acting as a representative, a very filtered representative. In fact, sometimes Ling, having learnt about the cultures of their western neighbor, wondered exactly how much truth the buck-toothed diplomat from their embassy was telling the Emperor during his vists. Still, the status quo was maintained and since Amestris showed interest in opening up trade with Xing, any sort of disagreement with the way the diplomatic entities worked would close off that trade potential. Thus, Amestris tried its hardest, it seemed, to butter up the Emperor of Xing with treaties and gifts, though Ling also wondered if some of the treaties were translated with bias, and if some of the gifts were a fraction of what was the original, or if the Amestris people were still attempting to humble the Empire of Xing, keeping him in power check.
That thought lasted until, of course, the day the representative diplomat came in with the “diplomatic specimen.”
All eyes turned towards the Emperor, though none made an obvious show of looking at him directly, curious to see what his reaction to this “diplomatic specimen” would be.
He did not look too amused.
“Ambassador Tso,” the Emperor drawled, looking at him with disinterested eyes, “I thought that Amestris did not condone slavery. Are you falsely representing something?”
“No, your highness,” the Ambassador said , his voice squeaking slightly,“They do not condone anything that would wrongly put humans into bondage.”
“Then what is this that you have brought us?” the Emperor asked, motioning to the girl.
“This, Your Highness, is a pure ‘ying-yang human,’” the Ambassador explained. Several gasps rang through the court, and hushed whispers ranging from shock to disgust scattered throughout. To emphasize his point, Ambassador Tso pulled off the cloak that covered the girl (apparently done so that her skin would not be taken off by the desert heat) to reveal her to the court.
The first thing that most people seemed to notice, apparently, was her chest. The girl was incredibly well endowed and Ling fought hard to suppress a whistle while he heard some of his brothers hiss a sharp breath. By the way her eyes were unfocused and her absolute lack of a struggle, it was apparent that they had sedated her quite heavily, though Ling was not sure why. What boggled him more was the fact that Ambassador Tso thought it was appropriate to bring two large and armed bodyguards to stand behind her, as though she were some weapon of mass destruction. To Ling, she was just a voluptuous girl who looked a notch prettier than most, drugged up and offered to a foreign country by her own.
“Ying-yang human…” the Emperor murmured, narrowing his eyes at the girl, who swayed as though drunk, “You mean a hermaphrodite? That’s nothing special.”
“No, Your Highest Excellency,” Tso continued, “This girl is not a hermaphrodite, but in fact a human who can change from a man to a woman. She was born a man, but through an alchemic accident that he was performing himself, he managed to change himself. Right now, she is all woman.” He moved to lift her skirt to prove his point.
“How dare you!” the Emperor boomed, “This is not a prostitution house! How dare you go and show a woman’s ‘dark tunnel’ in the royal hall!” His voice alone caused the Ambassador to drop the hem of the girl’s skirt and fall to his knees, groveling for forgiveness.
“If I want to see if the girl’s truly an alchemic accident, I shall ask my court pharmacists to do so,” the Emperor spat out, disgusted, “And what is the relevance of you bringing her here?”
The words then uttered by the tiny, tiny, little man were muffled due to how close his mouth was to the red carpet of the grand hall. His words were also shaky, but it sounded more like he was excited about his offering. “W-well,” he stammered, “the Amestrian government would like to extend their overflowing fervor to share their alchemic information with Xing… and therefore, they would like to offer this specimen up for examination and hopefully allow for the discovery of some secrets in alchemy…”
The Emperor did not look convinced and snapped his fingers to summon his own body guards to go and take the girl from the Ambassador.
“If that is the case,” the Emperor said, “then why does the government not interrogate this girl themselves?”
“She is not talking,” Tso answered matter-of-factly. The royal guards met some resistance from her as they took her away from the Ambassador’s guards. She whimpered some unintelligible words and looked around the court for either help or an exit to escape, but her eyes were so unfocused it was hard to tell if she were just flustered as though in a bad dream.
“Humph, then they do not want to get their own hands dirty,” the Emperor huffed and then stood up to signify the ending of the audience session, “I still do not believe that she is able to change from man to woman. How long does the process take?”
“From previous observation, it seems that once a month, he turns from a man to a woman, Your Highness,” Tso answered again.
“I shall have my medical counsel and pharmacists study her for a month, then,” the Emperor announced, “And if she is not what you say she is, then I want her thrown back to the lying nation that she came from.”
With that, he waved his hand and dismissed the court, calling for his medical council as he stepped from the throne.
To be continued.
