We all know the poor boy is 4'11 (and for reference, so am I). In episode 17, it's implied he hasn't really grown at all since he'd left home...4 years prior. That's a pretty long time spent not really growing (I sympathise, I had the same problem). Not to mention it seems he's ALWAYS had a height problem. But there inlies the problem thats bugging me...
Now, for a little personal relevance. When I was 10 years old, I was the shortest person in my class, standing a mere 4 feet tall. The tallest person was a gil, who stood a gigantic 5 feet. Everyone else was somewhere in between, around the middle or so.
Lets not forget the little fact that girls tend to grow and mature at a younger age than boys do. So it comes no shock to me the class giant was a female.
Now, getting back to our loveable Ed. For him to have barely grown in 4 years, and still be nearly 5 feet, he HAD to have been a pretty tall 11 year old. Even if he grew say, 2 inches in that time, I don't know about you, but I sure as hell didn't know any 11 year old boys being quite THAT tall. Certainly wouldn't be the class giant, but certainly NOT a shrimp either.
For Ed to have stayed a shrimp all that time, he'd either have to be much shorter than he is, or been shorter back then and grown a bit. Either way, thats a bit of a plothole, wouldn't you say?
Now, I'm certainly not poking fun at his height by any means. I can totally relate to his height issues, being a full grown 22 year old female who only crosses the 5 foot mark WITH shoes on. When I was very young, I suddenly stopped growing for 3 years. Went to doctors for years, had tests done, and no answer was ever found. It had NOTHING to do with the fact that I, like Ed, HATE Milk.
Personally, I don't have a problem with being short, I always have been (I was against the whole doctors visits to find out why. Sure, I wanted to know, and sure, it would be nice to be taller, but being short is who I am, and I've always accepted that). Yeah, it's inconvenient at times, and I have short arms and the hands of a 10 year old, which does tend to suck.
The problem I have with is when OTHER people mention it. Yeah, I sometimes make fun of my own height, and I know the comments and jokes about it will never cease. But geez, for the love of whatever diety there is, people need to shut the hell up about it all the time. I don't need it pointed out to me every 5 minutes. I KNOW. I'm the one LIVING in this body. I know I look like I'm 15. Get the hell over it. So I'm short. So you're not. What difference does it make, unless it requires getting something off a high shelf with a lack of a stool? Conversely, I can fit into smaller places and get things out of tight spots when others can't. Unless height is DIRECTLY related to the task at hand (and 99% of the time, it isn't), my height (or lack thereof) is no ones buisness to butt into. It does not affect my ability to think and act like a repecful human being with common sense and intelligence.
So yes, I can VERY much relate to how much Ed gets pissed off when people point out that he's vertically challenged.
Don't insult the short people. One day, they may come back to kick your ass. Especially Ed. We all know he's damn good at ass-kicking (and he'd got the bod to prove it).
So yeah. I'll shut up now. Questions/comments/concerns/etc.?
