Does anyone else have this problem?
So I bought this necklace at the PMX convention a few weeks ago (for half the price, wheee), and though I love it, I am also exceedingly annoyed by the comments it seems to generate. I'm pleased it's a conversation starter, but when people inevitably say 'Ooh, nice pentagram' or worse 'Ermmm...is that a pentagram?' and I reply 'Actually, it's a symbol from my favourite anime series' the blank stares (or condescending ones!) are really just so vexing. I guess I shouldn't go on to say things like 'it's an Alchemic array' or try to explain that a Flamel is 'just like the Cauduceus for medicine, except with one snake' thinking they might actually understand that one. Alas, no. Blank, patronizing smiles are all that I receive, even after attempting to enlighten their ignorant little minds. Le sigh. ;-)

Of course, sometimes I enjoy confounding people, and say Hagane no Renkenjutsushi and other japanese words really fast and giggle when no one understands what I'm saying. Tee hee. *grins impishly*

I just needed to vent. And smirk a bit. Cause I'm like that. *chuckles*

My favourite was the last time I cosplayed hime1999's Pride!Ed. The ouroboros was smack on my forehead, and it was the mangaish version. Was asked if that was the "star of david" on my forehead, and people just kept staring at it the entire subway ride. ^_^*

I'm sure even people who knew Ed (can you believe there are those who don't? ;-) were thinking WTF, that is so wrong...*laughs*

Although I did get a shijitaki and it was half price because it was the last one. Yay~ They also gave me a free poster. I still have no clue of what it was for....

*nods also about the necklace*

Try being one of the people who actually wears a Pentacle. "No you don't have to be Goth/Emo to wear a Pentacle. No, it has nothing to do with the devil. No, I won't cast a spell for you." The ignorance is stifling.

I saw that one at Hot Topic the other day. I actually thought to myself, "Hey, I bet all the baboons that accuse me of devil-worship will do the same to whomever wears that necklace!" Alas, I have been proven right. *shakes head and sighs*

I have the one with the bloodseal. I just tell people that it's a transmutation circle. When they ask "A transmutation circle?" I just say "yes." and go about my business.

My friend Steph and I once spent half an hour chalking a fifteen-foot wide, to-scale flame array on the brick courtyard outside our student center. Used up about three sticks of that thick kiddie sidewalk chalk on it. (It was sidewalk art week at a club we go to.)

The next morning, the groundskeepers had washed it away.

All of the other sidewalk art was left intact, except for that array and a few of the drawings we'd made near it, which were probably collateral damage. I still figure they thought it was some kind of dark worship symbol or something. That, or they were mad that we'd chalked it directly on top of the fifteen-foot-wide circular university logo set into the brick courtyard... XD

I don't have the necklace but I have a t-shirt that I wear often. So far this guy I've been crushing on stopped to ask me about it, then started to watch the show and ended up really liking it. We talk about it alot actually and tried to have an FMA mini-camp (because he missed the first few eppies and was so lost it was cute) before a football game (I'm in a college marching band).
Terterrierlee on September 29th, 2005 05:31 pm (UTC)
I wore one of my FMA t-shirts which was whoring the flamel liekwoah o_o; My sub in English asked whut it was and I was like.. "A flamel *goes back to reading*" XP

Ha, people always ask about my Flamel necklace xD

"Is that the medical sign?"
"Are you christian?"
"What's wrong with your cross?"

Me: -blink- it's a flamel. The Alchemy symbol. -walks away-

It's amusing. People think the worst things, I swear..
