I was thinkin'...
You know what we need? Some kind of FMA fanspeak dictionary so people who are new to the series, like me, will have some kind of idea about what you all are talking about.

For example... what words are confusing you? Perhaps we could just do a Q & A in here and explain what we mean by some terms...

we should have a bigger FAQ than the one in the userinfo ...

It took me a while to figure out who "Aru" is. Uh... I dunno, perhaps we sould have a thread asking us n00bs everyone what's confusing, or terms that they feel should be defined.

Yeah... when I first joined, I had no clue what OTP was, until I asked, and found out. And now I whore that acronym any chance I get.... XD

That's what being a Harry Potter fan'll do to ya. You know most of the terms before you encounter them in other fandoms. :]

There was actually a community dedicated to fandom speak, but I wonder what happenened to it...

I wanna know what Crack means. I'm slow. Stfu.
slovak vampire: FMA Pokemonnumisma on August 12th, 2005 07:32 am (UTC)
Crack? It's basically, silly, intentionally non-serious, and has a high tendency to be extremely crazy and unfounded, such as purposeful OOCness or playing on cliches, inside jokes, and/or fanon.

For example, take a peek at my icon.
slovak vampire: fukunumisma on August 12th, 2005 07:35 am (UTC)
And the term crack probably stems from crack as in crack cocaine, as opposed to a crack in a wall. As in, so horrendously unfounded/silly that only one could have come up with it while under the influence of crack. However, do not quote me on that.

*dies laughing XD XD XD!* Thanks for clearing that up for me.

Or that crack is cheaper than manga.
rukushorukusho on August 12th, 2005 01:39 pm (UTC)
Yeah, it took me a while to figure out what some things meant, like Crack and OTP and why they did the '!' between a word and name (i'm still confused on that) But if you hang around long enough, you start to pick up on most of the terms :)

Oh, the exclaimation mark is kind of a sign of "that kind of" person.

so angst!Roy is Roy at his angstiest, while pervy!Roy is Roy drooling over miniskirts (or Ed, or Ed in miniskirts, depending on who you talk to.)

Thankyou :D

Umm... I've been hanging around here for a while, but I've never been able to figure out what zeppelin'd means... could someone tell me? *feels dumb*
zchan285 on August 12th, 2005 04:29 pm (UTC)
From what I know, it's a reference to a later episode. (I think. 50 or 51, I'm not sure)

Highlight to see ep. 50/51 spoilers -->
It refers to when alter!Ed gets hit and killed by a zeppilin. I think so, at least.
As for what it's used for... I have no idea. XD;; I've only seen it used in total randomness.
zchan285 on August 12th, 2005 04:33 pm (UTC)
Or there's this, which explains it a lot better:

Same warning as above, but it has the best. Example. EVAR.
cricket_chan on August 12th, 2005 07:51 pm (UTC)
OOH! I get it now! Thanks!
Terterrierlee on August 12th, 2005 08:13 pm (UTC)
I totally make up the "When a shrimp goes through a gate, a zeppelin appears, thus falling on the shrimp. This has thus been entitled "Zeppelin'd"." :D Cause like... I'm the crack sin "Zeppelin". "Zepp" for short :D
Zrana: Tada!zrana on August 15th, 2005 02:37 am (UTC)
Personally, my original intention of the phrase Zeppelin'd was to mean a spoiler.

This came from being in a chat with VAs who had yet to see the end of the series. I was all "BEWARE OF ZEPPELINS!" taking a silly take of "BEWARE OF SPOILERS" since zeppelins are featured near the end of the series. So to me, in one way, Zeppelin'd can also mean smashed by a spoiler. But only those who know a spoiler can know it's a spoiler, so my variations of the meaning is something that can stay in my little world.

I think I was in the chat when the phrase "zepp'lin'd" was first used. o.o wow.

This is a good idea. *tries to think up ways to help*

Actually, we SHOULD maybe have an official fandom dictionary... like in the userinfo or something... :o
