Wierd connection's between FMA and George Lucas' 'Star Wars'. Yes, but it has a connection! Cut for spoilers and theorys.
Think about it.
"Good" Alchemy - The good side of the Force
"Forbidden" Alchemy - The Dark side.
And, besides the search of the Philospher's stone, the story goes along. Even Luke gets a metal hand eventually (Ed's automail). (O_o)
Luke father is never there, mother dies, goes to live with cousins, into Luke leaves. (We first see Luke on Tattoine, a dessert like planet)
Ed's father dissapears, and Ed lives with his with his mother until she dies. And Ed lives with close friends, the Rockbells, until Ed leaves. (We first see Ed in Riore, a dessert like place)
Luke must fight against his fathers chronies (The Empire), not until the end finnaly realizing that his father is behind all the Empire and using the dark side of the force, and Luke kills him.
Ed must fight against his fathers chronies (The Sins), [speculation, but very likely] not until the end finnaly realizing that his father is behind the Sins and he is using the forbidden alchemy. And perhaps the end of FMA, Ed must kill his father.
