I got a bit inspired, and decided to extend my last post on FMA characters and Cabalistic numerology. For those of you new to this odd little exercise, this is Gematria, where one calculates the numeric value of a word or name, and finds out what other words, names, phrases have the same value. These same-valued elements then are thought to have some connection, they are in a way "the same."

Of course this is simplistic (Cabalistic thought, a form of Judaic Esotericism, is complex and covers a lot of ground), I had to make guesses as to proper translations of specific letters and combinations, and it's all in fun.

But hey, we are all here to have fun. And I know how simple things inspire much crack here . . .

The following table lists the names, their calculated numeric value, and what other elements have the same value. Words in quotes means that word is in Hebrew.

Ones in bold are new ones or ones I corrected from the last post.

I think "a circle of hell" is a very apt description of Ishbal while it was being trampled by the military.
Dragon Scholardragonscholar on June 30th, 2005 06:50 am (UTC)
Specifically it's Gehenna, which was originally a valley used as a garbage dump and crematory for the poor and criminals near Jerusalem.

That one really weirded me out.

"Hagaren: And God saw that it was good" XDDDD Ah! The schweet irony and painfulness that implies.

Yesh, some of those are hilarious. (Pinako is a Yiddish-speaking closet yaoi fan! Wai!) But no, really, Kabbalah and numerology are coolies <3 Thanks for enlightening us.
Dragon Scholardragonscholar on June 30th, 2005 01:06 pm (UTC)
Regarding Pinako . . . well nothing would surprise me.

Also one of the creepiest ones is Kimblee - his name has the numeric value of "Jericho" . . . . where the walls fell.

What references are you using for your lookups?

Godwin's Cabalistic Encyclopedia. Has a lot of helpful translation hints and plenty of references.
