Hmmm...actually going to happen or just me being weird?
So I was so ready to watch anime till I noticed the new Newtype magazine that was on my dresser.

Anyone wanna take a guess as to what was on the cover?

Hoho..yeah it's FullMetal Alchemist. <3

WHICH. Leads me to believe that Funimation or another company here might be picking it up soon.

Now I know I'm just assuming here but usually it's not in Newtype with a big article unless it's either a)already in the States or b)coming sometime soon to the States. I've noticed that with a lot of the big articles they do in which they summerize characters and plot and such, it usually means that something besides it being popular in Japan made them do an article on it.

Of course this is just me noticing trends like this so please feel free to disagree with me. I know this has been a recent debate going on but I just wanted to put this out there and see what you guys thought of it. ^^

Well, the Newtype in Japan almost ALWAYS has the same cover as the one in the US. I haven't compared the insides of my two older issues (US and Japan), though. I should see if the articles are similar.

Well, not necessarily. The American Newtype always does stories on what's hot in Japan, they keep up to date with just about everything. I don't read the Japanese Newtype so I don't know how well they parallel the articles. Gundam Seed was on the cover of the American Newtype once or twice before it was licensed, if I'm recalling my timeline correctly. *shrugs* I'm sure they've been negotiating liscensing rights for FMA for a while, it is the second most popular in Japan at the moment. :D

I was under the impression that FMA was the number 1 anime in Japan right now...at least that's what it seemed like to me, 'cause in the Japanese Newtype, Animage, and Animedia I have in the ratings section FMA was number 1...but that could just be what the reader polls are. ^_^;; Can't read much Japanese at all, or hardly anything. XD So what is number 1 right now? Just thought I'd ask. ^_^

Well, in the last Newtype I checked, it was still #2, but that info's a month old. *shrugs* :D

The previous poster is right. Newtype USA is i think one month behind a month maybe 2, and with the exception of the advertising, the articles and animes featured are the same between the two.

Besides Newtype's biggest sponsors is ADV so if any R1 releases are going to be heavily advertised it's going to be one of their titles. THey would't be announcing anyone else's acquistions. It's bad for business.

Not all of the promo stuff included with the magazine is ADV, though. I know most of the promo DVDs are, but there have been some that haven't been ADV. (I remember a Bandai one, and a Media Blasters one...) *shrugs*

Oh and one more thing not pertaining to this...

If anyone were to pick up FMA for licensing my money would be on ADV picking it up since they have a prior working relationship. ADV did Square's other major anime project FF: U.
