FMA vernacular...
I'm just really curious, where did this whole "!" thing come from? For example, Lightbulb!Envy or Armor!Al. Speaking of which... does anyone know where the whole Lightbulb!Envy thing came from, too? I get the whole palm tree thing, but the lightbulb... that's a chin-scratcher. O_< Arrr...

That's a computer/math thing. It's from way before FMA.

It's used in fandoms to describe a "mode" for a person...

angsty!Harry
horny!Envy
sexy!Ed
lightbulb!Al

Etc.

And the lightbulb!envy thing... I think the story is at lightbulb_envy somewhere.

The ! thing comes from Cassandra Claire in the Harry Potter fandom, I believe. That was the first well-known instance of it, at least. It spread like wildfire.

. . . hmm. I don't think I ever actually finished the most recent, you know. I couldn't say why. But I enjoyed reading them for a while, yes. She writes solidly, though I hear there's lots of wank around her. Alas.

It's like a lot of net slang, someone starts using it then others use it, and it spreads everywhere. It's pretty crazy how stuff gets around so quickly.
