No Fullmetal Alchemist for Teletoon

Teletoon isn't interested
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
While nothing has been said about any possibility of Fullmetal Alchemist airing on YTV, Teletoon, Canada's answer to Cartoon Network, has passed this statement on to Zannen Canada:

"Our programming department knows about Fullmetal Alchemist, and has decided that this title does not fulfill our brand requirements or the interest of the majority of our viewers. We understand that the animé genre is a popular one with a segment of the population, however, [Teletoon]’s priority has to remain being true to its brand – this commitment has served us well, and has allowed the network to position itself clearly amongst all other offerings."

[Edit] Even though I'm not in Canada and I get to watch it on Adult Swim, I know many of you are from Canada. I'm disappointed that you guys might not get a chance to watch it on TV.

Says the TV channel airing "Totally Spies" and "MegaMan NT Warrior". =_=

Teletoon never played many anime series to begin with (only Cardcaptors....the less edited version XP, Patlabor movie, I think...), so I'm not really concerned (I actually thought it was funny ^_^**). If any Canadian tv station is likely to pick it up, it'd be YTV. =)

Ah, Megaman NT.....that makes three that I can remember.... definitely doesn't exceed 10. XP

Now that is a bunch of bullcrap. We're not going to get it for you because not enough people watch it and we only deal with things from the Canadian National Film Board. That's what it sounds like to me. Let's hope YTV does try and get it. I have quite a few Canadian friends.

And I thought America was the one who was all scared about infecting children with bad stuff or something. @_@; I don't know..they better air it for Canada. :\

Ah, but with Teletoon, it's hardly anything like that. ^_^* After all, their programming can target toddlers/pre-schoolers to adults (since some of the stuff they show at night is definitely not for kids =P). They do, however, have a tendency to play rather obscure cartoons, which is both good and bad. Anime hasn't really seemed to be one of their targets, even if they play the odd series or two.

Come on YTV! Maybe we should spam them.

I'm also hoping that Québec will steal Hagaren from France. Come on, I'm stuck here for at least another three years, I'd like people to know what I'm squeeing about all the time!

Vrak.TV should SO pick it up (or Canal +) or...if you really want to be unrealistic here....Société Radio-Canada otherwise known as the french version of CBC.

*doesnt live in Quebec anymore*

It'd be interesting if CBC picked it up...an anime of all shows...

Too much gore? The Psiren boob-honk? Roy's womanizing? Sploding heads? Unrecognizable blobs of human transmutated goo? Bloody crotches?!

I believe those might be possible reasons as to why Teletoon might not air FMA... I don't live in Canada, nor have I watched Teletoon... so I doubt they have an 'adult cartoon time' slot thingy... I mean... YTV forced Mainframe Ent. to change the title of 2 of their shows because 'war' was in the title, (War of the Planets for the U.S. version, Shadow Raiders for the Canadian version... and Beast Wars = U.S. while Beasties = Canada)... so who knows if Teletoon is that picky too?

The Beast Wars/War Planets thing was because of a law, not network standards.

YTV is currently showing .Hack, Inuyasha, DBZ, Witch hunter Robin and Gundam Seed. I have no doubt that eventually they'll get FMA.

Meh, I'm not really worried in the least sense. Teletoon is a sub-par network at best. Oddly enough, Corus Entertainment owns all (I think) of YTV and some of Teletoon, so I wonder if the commitment to Astral Media and Nelvana may be part of the issue.

There's also rumours that Funi and the staff at YTV had a falling out several years back. Personally, I want to see CHUM Limited get the series. Space needs new blood bad and if worse comes to worse, it could air in reruns on Booktelevision, since the series has a past as a comic book.

Teletoon isn't the station to run something like that. However, YTV would be the best bet. Probably during the time they run Inuyasha and the other anime.

Teletoon SUCKS
Yuuki Hikariyuukihikari on April 14th, 2005 11:53 pm (UTC)
Teletoon's been anti-anime for the longest time. The network, in it's first few years was VERY good, and actually showed a few decent/graphic/gorey/uncut anime late at night... but something happened.

The only hope Canada has of getting FMA is YTV (which... eh... I'm not sure about - but YTV's really smartened up about anime lately) or possibly Space. Either that or somewhere on Canadian satelitte (someone mentioned CHUM).

I wouldn't hold my breath tho o_x;

It's weird that they've become anti-anime. They used to air Card Captor Sakura in the French Teletoon (uncut because it's the France dub), but they cancelled it after being well into the last season. >.o

Stupid Teletoon... *mumble mumble mumble* I mean, over half of their shows are complete crap, anyway. The least they could do is increase their rating by showing some anime! Who the hell runs that place?!
Pilukita on April 15th, 2005 02:36 am (UTC)
Blah, the way I see it Teletoon still have no clue how lucrative anime is. I'm sure YTV would pick it up next.
Procrastination Queenforever_slash on April 15th, 2005 03:35 am (UTC)
*phew* I am so relieved Teletoon didn't want FMA. Frankly, I've never liked them and I thinka Friday night on YTV would be a more suitable time spot for FMA, what with the maturity content and all. XD
halfling_rogue on April 15th, 2005 07:27 am (UTC)
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

What brand? What brand?! Teletoon's got cartoons from everywhere else in the world, why not Japan?!?
