When Fullmetal had come to me admitting he loved me, I’d been surprised. It wasn’t like the boy to admit anything, especially to me. I think he needed it more than he seemed too. I never really thought about how horrible the weight on his shoulders was.
After he’d restored himself and Alphonse, I think a lot of the weight was lifted off. But at the same time, he didn’t know what to do with himself after that. He’d gotten the stone, been restored, what was left? There was nothing he really had to do.
He was still in the military, and I suppose that offered something, but I think he was satisfied just to see his brother smile again. That made him happier than anything, and I had to admit, I loved seeing him like that. It was nice, finally seeing him with a true smile. But I could tell, through all the happiness, that he was upset about something.
Now, I knew after all he’d been through he would still be upset. When you go through something that horrible, the scars are never really erased. But at the same time, there was something different, a new problem that he had. And after some time, I decided to confront him about it.
“What’s the matter with you?” It had been a simple question, and in turn received a simple answer.
“Nothing.” What had I been expecting? Him to spill his heart out to me?
“That’s a lie. I can tell Edward.” I was surprised when he smiled. It was a sad smile, but it was still there none-the-less.
”You wouldn’t understand.” My first thought was to respond with a “Yes I would,” but then I decided against that.
“Why wouldn’t I understand?” He looked at me, his eyes strangely intense.
“You don’t understand everything.”
Somehow the statement stood as an answer itself. I nodded.
“You’re right Edward, I don’t understand everything, but I’d like to help you, if I could.”
He met my eyes. “I might take you up on that offer.” Then he’d left.
I’d wondered if he would tell me what was happening, but in the weeks that followed, he’d seemed happy. And so I left him alone. Until a month later, when he walked into my office.
There was a knock at my door. “Come in,” I’d sighed, waiting for it too be another hoard of paperwork. When it was Edward who came in, I calmed. “Hello.”
He walked over to my desk, leaning his palms on the top of it. “I have something I want to talk to you about.” I leaned back in my chair.
“Go ahead.” He seemed to be thinking about what he was going to say, but then all of a sudden he started laughing.
“What’s so funny?” Slightly irritated. What exactly was he laughing about?
“Nothing. I just really thought about how stupid I was going to sound telling you this. I’m going to totally trash my reputation.” I blinked. What was he planning on telling me? It had to be major, if it involved Fullmetal sacrificing his reputation.
“….I suppose there’s no use holding it back anymore.” He looked at me, then leaned towards me and set his lips next to my ear, and whispered.
“I love you.”
My eyes widened and I had no time to react to anything else as he pulled his lips away from my ear and set them on mine. His lips where warm, and I didn’t see what was happening until he pulled away and grinned at me.
When did he get on top of me? And how were we on the floor? He rolled over to my right side, and turned to face me.
“Well,” he smirked, “I’m assuming you don’t mind.”
I blinked. How was I supposed to answer that? It went against all the military rules, Fraternization….did that count if it was two males? And also….now I’m a pedophile. But did I mind? Of course not.
“No Edward, I don’t mind.” He smiled at me.
“Good, because I’m not sure if I be able to stand it if you did.”
I sighed, standing back up and pulling him into my arms as he stood.
“I’m never going to get rid of you, am I Fullmetal?”
He grinned and shook his head, before rolling his eyes. “You have to deal with me? I’m much worse off dealing with you, bastard Taisa.”
I smiled, pulling his chin up with my hand and kissing him. “I know Edward….and I love you too.”
