Fanfiction: An Inconvenient Season

Title: An Inconvenient Season, Part 1
Fandom: FMA (manga version)
Character(s): Winry and a special guest; Ed, too, eventually
Pairing(s): Ed/Winry
Word Count: ~3000 (for this part)
Rating: PG-13 (eventually, for language and what I hope will be an exciting action sequence)
Warnings: None, as long as you've kept up with Viz's English translation. Takes place in an imagined future seven years after the end of the series.
A/N: I began developing this piece to enter in last year's Ed/Winry Fire and Ice Challenge, but it grew so much in the telling that I was unable to finish it on deadline. Revisions have been plaguing the life out of me ever since, but I think it's time this tale began to see the light of day. Hopefully enough people will want to know how it turns out that I will feel compelled to complete it with expedition. Concrit welcomed with a bread-cheese-and-pickle sandwich. Crossposted from nebroadwe to Höllenbeck (i.e. hagaren_manga, fm_alchemist, fma_het, ed_winry, fma_writers and fma_fiction).
Dedication(s): For my father, who taught me that villains never fight fair.

It was a dark and stormy night ...
