Well, the US International Toyfair is going on in New York at the moment, and for toy geeks like me, that means we get to see previews of what's coming out in the coming months.

One thing that caught my attention is an incredibly intricate Ed and Al statue that Square Enix looks to be bringing out soon. You can see pictures of it here.

And another few pictures here.

The statue is still in the prototype phase and it's of Ed holding a stricken Al and reaching for some kind of talisman or something (philosopher's stone maybe?). The label says it's from the manga, but either it's from an as yet unpublished chapter or it's from a cover piece or something because I don't recognize the scene.

I don't know any other details like a release date, etc. at the moment but if it gets imported I think Diamond Selects would be the people to bring it over, and they'd be who you'd order from. I'll update this entry if I find any more information.

Between the Mountains and the Sea
Fandom: Full Metal Alchemist
Pairing: Scar/Rose Tomas, but mostly Rose-centric.
Title: A Candle In The Window, Burning Hopeful and Bright
Written for the 7stagesLJ community
Prompt: candle in the window
Rating: PG-13
Warning/Spoilers: References to the anime up to and including the episode where Rose is first presented as the Holy Mother.

Disclaimer: Fullmetal Alchemist and its characters and settings were created by Hiromu Arakawa and are distributed by Square-Enix, Viz and Funimation. I'm just borrowing them solely for my own amusement and hopefully your enjoyment. Done all for fun, not for profit.

Summary: The young Holy Mother began lighting candles here so that the villagers could use the armory as a marker to find their way in the dark of night. Soon afterward she learned that weary travelers could see her candlelight from the city outskirts and guided many who were often scared, alone, and seeking refuge to their sanctuary where they always found a warm meal and medicine to tend their wounds.

Notes: All superstitions associated with candles and the blue baby blanket used in this fic were found in “Cassell’s Dictionary of Superstitions, by David Pickering (2002 edition)”. Comments and feedback on this fic would be loved and greatly appreciated, especially since I have several more to write for this pairing for the community. Thanks in advance!

So, from last year, you may perhaps remember the "April Fools' Fic Challenge." The object of this challenge was, like a normal fic exchange, to make a request and then take someone else's from the list to write.

The object of this challenge, however, was to "April Fools" your fic challenge -- to write a fic which matches the letter of the prompt, while deviating from it in spirit as much as possible.

Last year we had a lot of participation and some really great results! Let's hope we can do as well this year!
