Zomgwha?
Starting in february, Fullmetal Alchemist shirts will begin being sold at... Hot topic. that's right, hot topic. So says Funimation. Why hot topic and not, say, anime stores? No one knows.

...Isn't hot topic the store notorious for really badly made goth/punk clothing...?

Hmm. The blue one looks a bit cheesy ^.^;;;;;;

Excuse me? Badly made? Hot Topic happens to import really great quality pants. I loves the pants. And the skirts. Dresses...not so much, you have to take good care of them. But come on, have you ever even bought anything from them?
darkazriel on January 30th, 2005 07:08 pm (UTC)
I don't know, there aren't any near me. I've just heard from other people of seams falling apart, buttons falling off, etc. when they haven't been owned very long. Maybe it depends what you're getting. ^^;

We have Hot Topic at the mall...

...

They got good stuff. 0_o;
billypilgrim on January 30th, 2005 06:59 pm (UTC)
Hot Topic is known for goth/punk clothing, but it's really not low quality. The shirts I've bought from them are really nice and look great. So.. yeah. The image quality for those are terrible, so I can't judge.
heliwood on January 30th, 2005 07:02 pm (UTC)
Yes they are but they also carry some anime-themed items and apparel there too.

Actually, they're now carrying the FMA trading arts there now. Thats where I got my Winry figure.

Are they the ones with the blister cases (the see through things) or the randominabox ones?

Because if they're the blister case ones, I need to get a Roy to go with my Hughes.

>_>

I mean, I don't even really LIKE Roy 80% of the time but then I look at my Hughes figure and he's like "oh bitch where's my friend don't make me go small soldiers on you and use this knife on you while you sleep"

*cough*
kawaiimae on January 30th, 2005 07:04 pm (UTC)
BUT I WOULD NEVER BE CAUGHT DEAD AT HOT TOPIC LIKE OMG.

but i want the red shirt. gah. life. life!

*sucks it up and goes*

*gets laughed at for having preppy collared shirts and boot-cuts with Pumas*

*sighs* for the good of otakudom...?

Don't worry, they don't laugh. ^__^

I'm an avid Hot Topic shopper, and usually go in wearing faux-preppy stuffs. Most of the stuffs there are rip-offs of preppiness, and they would probably think they're converting another person. XD

Ahhhhh, I wish there were a Hot Topic here now~~~ T___T I wanna go home where Hot Topics are everywhere~~~

I'm sorry... it's going to take me a few moments to get the pictures of the Hot Topic-type goth kids in FMA-themed clothing out of my head.

(Probably Hot Topic because, blatantly generalizing the demographic Funi's probably shooting for, the store is "trendy" and the people who would go into anime stores to buy the shirts are already watching, and a good deal of them probably shop at Hot Topic anyway so it's no inconvenience to them. ^_^ And there are more Hot Topics than there are anime stores. The nearest one to be when I'm at home is a good three hours away. Yay marketing!)

And yeah... nothing wrong with Hot Topic aside from the pre-teens that are "Hot Topic Goth"-types that write those make-over Hermione Mary Sues in the Harry Potter fandom. Those scare me. (-:
darjeeling darlingmalika on January 30th, 2005 07:06 pm (UTC)
...make over Hermione sues? Like, Hermione walks into Hogwarts for her 7th year dressed in bondage pants and screamo bandshirts with bad eyeliner and dyed hair?

...please say no. pleasepleaseplease.

Hot Topic has really low quality clothes, yes. Their shirts are alright, though :D so I think I may buy one of the FMA shirts

they do carry a lot of anime/cartoon/comic book/vintage themed stuff in addition to the godawful gawth stuff, and it's more accessible than most anime stores, so I guess that's why Funi chose them.

I can't decide if I want to be like "OMG AWESOME" or "oh my god my fandom." Because I do shop a lot at Hot Topic, but I am NOT one of the Hot Topic posers that give the store a bad reputation. In fact the manager of my local Hot Topic is totally awesome and loves anime and goes to Otakon every year. :3 But yeah, I think it's pretty cool. Even if it does seem like FMA's selling out a little bit..
darjeeling darlingmalika on January 30th, 2005 07:16 pm (UTC)
Funi is selling out, silly :3

but yeah, it's awesome because it's accessible now, but oh my god my fandom because... well, self-explanatory. .____.;

I love Hot Topic, their Nintendo clothes are awesome. *has the Zelda track-style jacket* Too bad we haven't any here in Canada. ;o;

Hot Topic is okay, but I like Spencer's way better ^_^ Hot Topic is so damn expensive. Those shirts'll prolly be like 30 dollars each!
__kat__: chibi clap__kat__ on January 30th, 2005 10:53 pm (UTC)
30 dollars and not in my size.

Damn it! being tall sucks if I want to have nifty clothes!!!

Hot Topic is well-known for making Goth/punk style mainstream. Some say this detracts from the inherent Goth/punkiness, since by definiteion Goth/punk isn't supposed to be mainstream, but whatever. Hot Topic's got a lot of nifty stuff, and I don't think FMA t-shrts would be at all out of place there.
lostdecoy on January 30th, 2005 07:21 pm (UTC)
Well, as for the badly made part...it depends on the brands there. I've known many people who have shown me their clothing falling apart, I've had to help even repair their stuff too!

As for these t-shirts, you shouldn't have a problem for quality. Generic T-shirts are fine, so if any fans want them, buy away! It's the overpriced fishnet & bondage stuff you gotta look out for, even good brands such as Lip Service purposely made LOWER quality versions fo their clothing for Hot Topic to sell.
zeeeee joebbgc___whore on January 30th, 2005 07:21 pm (UTC)
haha, i hate hot topic so much. they're anything but the music now a days with all the nintendo and adult swim merchandise.

at least the fma shirts are in good taste and don't have some lame phrase on them.
