Edo-kun Fanart
I'm not often around the community, but I figure here would be the best place to get some critiques. I hope. >.> (I'm not getting much feedback and that's ... not helping.) More than slightly AU.

Any suggestions? (I know the swords are wonky, I'm working that out. .__.x)

Yeah, swords can be hard to draw. Get some good refrence pictures and keep practicing. For some reason, his head looks too large to me in both pictures, and the proportions look kinda wonky in the second one. Also needs some highlights, not just colour in the second image. Other than that though, nice lineart job and I like the overall concept. =)

Thanks, I love good feedback. n.n

The proportions did end up being wonky in the first pic, but I didn't expect the picture to turn into Ed. >.> I'll probably go back and re-CG it since I didn't have as much time on that picture as I'd liked. (Stupid lab and the inability to save .psd files... .__.)

Tasha: Still the prettiest. - by nalavashitasha_mac on January 20th, 2005 09:11 am (UTC)
From what my artist friend tells me, there's a perfect spot on a french curve for katana blades. I don't draw blades all that often, so I haven't tried it out, but if you hunt around one you might find it. :D

Also...this may not have any bearing on anything, but since I can't remember my kendo and thus can't remember if it's relevant...I guess I should just say I'm reminding the comm that Edward's left-handed. I noticed that last week during AS. XD I don't think it really makes any difference with how a sword's held, but...like I said, can't remember. XD;;;;

Oh, uh...*cough*...otherwise, those pics are totally awesome. I wanna lick the first one. XD

...sadly, the plotbunny was spawned because of a half-finished RK/FMA crossover I was writing on a dare. ^_~x;

And you've spawned a completely different plotbunny, thank you. I don't need anymore samurai!FMA AUs, spammit all...

Going by my friends (who may or may not be a valid information source, I'm still looking things up), the hand positions do vary depending on which arm you use the most. I don't think there are many left-handed Japanese people, though, so that's why it's uncommon? *shrugs* I dunno.

I agree the uncomfortable bit, after seeing all the right-left hand discussions I was playing around with my shinai and it's not a very comfortable position at all. Plus, my boobs get in the way. >.>

I'm just impressed I actually put in a background. I'm usually very, very bad about that. Slowly getting better. .___.x;

First, I saw your userpic and first thought it was Kenshin. o_O Then I realized it was Ed, but still... (I blame the expression and the Ruroken-style eyes... >_>)

Second, cool pics, but the katana definitely needs work. ^_^;; I'd personally recommend Rurouni Kenshin manga for reference, that's what I use frequently (including for my own drawing of Ed in hakama...), as it has just so many swordfights drawn from every angle that you could find a reference for just about anything.

Cool pics, though.

lol, thanks, that's an awesome compliment, actually. I worship Nobuhiro Watsuki.

I need to procure many RK tankobons, I only have about 1/3 of the series. I never actually thought to use it as a reference for weapons. How smart am I? XD

Y'know, it's a funny coincidence, but when I first saw FMA and Ed ripped off his jacket and one side of his shirt to reveal the automail, I instantly thought of a scene in the RK manga I'd read recently where Kenshin has half of his Kimono cut off in the fight with Raijuta.

Anyway, those are both cool pics, nice job! ^_^
