My reaction to esp 5..
Did anyone notice Al saying to the old lady at the Bread Stand when Ed on the phone with Roy.

Al said That smell good... I mean.. WTF? He can't smell either! *cringe*

Oh yah, What happen to the "Dog of the Military!!" *cries* Instead of "dog" Roy said "talk"
toward the ending.

Roy: "You'll become the talk of the military." (something like that)

I personally don't like Hughes voice at all. He sound high pitchy (like he was holding his nose while talking) comparing to the original. It makes me cringes.. I notice the VA of Hughes been changing the sound of his voices.
For example: When I first heard the conversation with Roy on the phone, he sound high pitchy.. Then almost toward the ending, all the sudden his voice went deep... >,<;

I think Al said, "These are supposed to smell good." He knows what rolls are SUPPOSED to smell like, after all.

Yes, Al didn't say they smelled good, he instead was half-asking if they did. Making it all the more clear that he can't smell or anything.

Go listen to Hughes' Japanese voice, please. When he's being all doting father-ish, his voice is totally different in tone than when he's being serious. The dub VA got his character down quite well.

No no, Al specifically said something along the lines of "Um... so, these smell good, right?" *DIES LAUGHING* SO CUTE!

I personally LOVED Hughes' voice. It fits him perfectly, in my opinion.

Actually, Al said "These smell good... right?"

*Having not seen the dub, please bear with me here*

Well, in the original, Keiji (Hughes's VA) did sound high-pitched and all-around happy on the phone while he talked to Roy and his voice did deepen near the end because it was a serious moment. Hughes is always high-pitchy in the original when he goes "Fatherly-Love" mode. So, frankly, I don't think there was anything wrong. (Again, I will have to see if my friend's friend who has US satellite, taped it or if anything will turn up on BT)

Hmm..."...talk of the military" ? You sure it wasn't "Dog"? (Its understandable to mix talk and dog together) Mind, this doesn't mean they've changed the "Dog of the Military" thing, yet. By saying "You'll be the talk of the military" he means likely, because of him being only a mere 12 yrs old, him suceeding and passing a National Alchemist test will be the buzz of all of the country's military. (Because, with the title of National Alchemist, you immediately are a part of the Military and are booted up to the rank of Major)

Re: what al said
"Uh....these smell good, right?" - subtitles.

Soupylady_agrias on December 5th, 2004 02:43 am (UTC)
Why would Roy say "you'll be the dog of the military" if he's talking to Ed about succeeding in passing the State Alchemist test? e_e; In fact, both of these things you have pointed out means you need subtitles.

Actually, the thing with Al is perfectly canon. He CAN'T smell, so he was like "uh... most people would be saying that they smell good, so...i'd better say something..." so he said "uh...these...smell good...right?"

I didn't like Hughes' voice right on the spot. It was... well, take it this way. Your head is out the window and your voice still sounds like it's indoors. Does that make sense? It's just that his speaking was so smooth when he was looking out of that train window. ._.;

But if we was just plainly talking casually, it was okay for me... but I thought that Hughes' voice could've been better. (Oh, woe! T_T *grabs her FMA towel and snuggles against Hughes' face. ; ;)

Random couple:

"Honey, let's have a talk later."
"Okay."

Next week

"Hey dude, what happened to your girlfriend?"
"She wanted to have a talk but I didn't know that it meant that she wanted a dog."

I didn't like Hughes' voice either..... it wasn't the same ..... if anything maybe if Fruits Baskets Shigure's voice actor had done it then maybe it would have worked out... but thats just me.....
