two questions
I'll start off with the serious question first, which is also kinda fun. =D

Since FMA's aired on CN and we've all had fun seeing everyone's initial reaction, I want to ask to the older fans:

What were your first thoughts on this series based on the first episode? Any strange ideas you had about the characters (ie: thought Al was a robot)

Mine: The title made me think "oh, Full Metal Panic spinoff. I didn't like FMP. Boo. But it has "alchemist" in it. I'll give it a try." (SHOOT ME) The first time I saw it, I never got to even the title card because it was really late and the whole losing-limbs really creeped me out. I think I stopped around when Ed was chasing Al around in circles. My thoughts? Story about two sets of brothers in alternate worlds. Oh, and that Ed looked like something out of Gundam Wing. Then I just let the file sit on my computer for about two or three months. XD;

The only other thing I could really remember was that I was hooked at the end of the episode and thought [because of the Melissa footage] Roy et all were an evil terrorist organization and that Roy looked "too dorky to be a good leader of such a scary looking group".

Second question:

What type of underpants do you want to see Roy and Havoc wear?

If you're wondering, I'm making a short comic for design class and decided to do a hagaren one that has Riza, Roy, and Jean on a deserted island and both guys are lounging around in their underwear (and then they try to eat Black Hayate but Riza shoots at them). I've decided I wanted Havoc to wear a loose undershirt but nothing beyond that. So you guys have fun trying to convince me to draw your idea.

We watched the first two episodes in anime club last year... I think in December or January. I didn't like it XD All I could think while I was watching it was "not more of that shounen crap! Goddamn, can't they come up with something more original? It's always some blonde brat who wants to accomplish this or that. GAH!"

Damn, it's so often that I regret words like that.

I kept hearing my friends' list talk about it though, so I started watching it again, little by little. I think I was finally completely trapped by episode five, and watched it gradually until about this summer, when I decided I was going to catch up before it ended. And catch up I did. And now the series is probably my most favorite anime series of all time (the only contender it has is Utena).

Well, admittedly I was first attracted to the series when I was paying a visit to the nearest Animate. At that time the Hagaren boom had started and the television episode has already reached 16 or 17, but me having no television and having just finished my final thesis, I didn't know.

Animate was playing READY STEADY GO, and being the L'Arc~en~Ciel fangirl I am, I stared at the OP clip on one of TVs. First thoughts: Hey, the guy looked like Duo. What's with that big armor? Ooh, men in uniform. Ooooh, woman with gun. Oooooooh, fire.

So I went back home and searched the internet, found some episodes in Toriyama's World, and was hooked ever since. *feels nostalgic*

I had already read some of the manga before I had watched the anime, so some things didn't really surprise me since I was sorta expecting it. Though I was overly excited about the FMA anime XD I remember being shocked at Al's voice though. I had expected it to be so much more lower! But then on second thought, it fitted him really well. The part where they transmuted their mother, that scared me too XD

Havoc should wear boxers. The kind with the red hearts. As for Roy... he should wear boxers with little Edwards on them XDDD ...or maybe little miniskirts XD

What were your first thoughts on this series based on the first episode?

That Ed's name was Al? I swear, I called the two opposite names until about episode... 10. I mean, I knew it was wrong, but when I said it I'd be like "Al is so cool. Ed.. Al... Yeah, Ed." That's all I can remember thinking. Oh, and that I couldn't see what Tearsy loved soo much about it. It was good, but not great.

Oh yeah, stuff. Havoc: Boxers. Roy: Teeny-weenie briefs.

Question 1:
I was impressed by the fantasy atmosphere, and I remember being a little shocked at the radio, which made me realize that it was closer to 1900's technology. Being a Christian, I was a little upset at Ed's atheist views, even though the Sun God wasn't directly Christianity

Of course, throughout the series, Ed's views on God changed (positively, IMO) and I found out how Dante screwed over Christianity and the Catholic church. Grr....that Dante >_<'

Question 2: I think since Roy and Havoc are pretty laid back..and um….yeah, they’d wear boxers. But since I’m a guy and not a fangirl, it might not be right for me to go into too much detail…

First thoughts on the show:

Wtf. The shortie shrimp who screams wayyy too much has metal limbs? The armor is cool though. Alchemy? Interesting concepts, but too much crack, not my cup of tea, and what's with the weird timeline (referring to the ep3 - ep10? of flashbacks)?? I didn't pay too much attention to it, then after ep 12, got re-hooked, watched the whole series up to 12 backwards, loved it, obsessed, and the rest is history ^_^;;

Second question:
Roy - briefs
Havoc - uh....regular boxers with hearts...but for some reason I keep seeing the words "Will yaoi for pocky" on his boxers..don't ask ^^;;;

The first time I ever saw it was in anime club, and I wasn't really paying attention - I was really tired that day, and was mostly sleeping on the floor. I wasn't very interested, though. The second time we watched it in anime club, it was some episode in the twenties - after the Lab 5 shizzle, I think - and again, I was bored by it XD;;

but I got into it after I started reading Ed/Roy fics, sadly enough >.> ("This slash is really damn good... maybe I should watch the series ._.")
Feriawithout_reason on November 7th, 2004 06:11 pm (UTC)
I read a few chapters of the manga waaay before watching the anime, so I don't remember much of my reaction to it. I think I was comparing the differences with the manga most of the time. >.>;

*has no good opinion on undies* xD;

Roy: Dark Blue breifs

Havoc: "TRUTH" boxers.

By the time I even heard of FMA, 7 episodes were out. I was curious (I was looking for Full Metal Panic) so I decided to check it out. I started downloading from an ftp. I got through ep 8 before I got d/c by the owner XD. I started watching them as soon as I got the first ep.

I couldn't make it through the intro of the first ep without going "OMG THESE BOYS JUST DID SOMETHING AND ONE DIED AND THE OTHER LOST HIS LEG" then "OMG HIS ARM TOO" to my best friend. XD I was hooked from the beginning.

Then I got my friends into it. Then one friend got her boyfriend to show it at the anime club that he runs. Everyone there is like "lykeomg naruto is the greatest! what's full metal alchemist?" At least that's how they were when I went the one time I got to before they played it.

Wow... I just went into a rant. I will now spare everyone the pain. XO

Well, when he showed the firsts epsiodes to my friends and I, sensei didn't stop saying "This series is great! Crazy! Especially that guy, his daughter and the dog... You'll love it!" I admit I was a little afraid... Anyway, I downloaded the first few epsiodes, and I told myself "Okay, I'm not gonna get hooked to this, I don't wanna, I'm sure people will die, I don't want to get attached (Yes, I'm really weak like that T.T No, I was. I'm not that bad anymore.). But... I fell in love with it and I could bring myself to stop downloading it... I would have so regretted it if I had stopped! I think Hagaren is the anime/tv-show I have been hooked on the longest (most of my intersts fade away after a few months... It's been almost a year for Hagaren!).

The 2nd question... I don't know for Roy... Probably boxers...

For Havoc...

I saw it first at my college's anime club. They showed the first two episodes. The only thought I remember is "OMG shorty spaz spastic character cute so cute wai!" Oh, and "This is cute. A nice, lighthearted series."

And then it turned around and ripped my heart out over and over again. Yep, that's Hagaren.

Roy would wear black silk boxers, and Havoc would wear something sensible and very comfortable.

My first impression was "dammit, explain alchemy some more, and how exactly is Al in a suit of Armor when it's empty?"

And I think Roy would be in boxer briefs, and definitely Havoc in boxers.

The first time I watched FMA, I didn't think too much of it. Then Gluttony ate people and I decided Ed's hair was nice, so I went back to the anime club and watched it again. Then Roy came on the screen, and I thought:

"Military uniforms! Asian man in military uniform!"

And I was happily hooked. (Yes, I can be very shallow.)

Roy would wear various sorts of underwear, and Havoc would wear boxers with heart prints.

I didn't like it at ALL at first. I downloaded the first two episdoes about a month or two after it had started airing. I think that I, like, accidentally skipped over the first five minutes where we get all that disturbing stuff, because I don't remember my reaction to it at all. :D Probably something along the lines of "uh-huh.... that's weird...". I hate myself. I was very suspicious that it was going to be Generic Fighting Show 34B, and I shut it off right when Rose came on screen. "Great, they're going to run around being wacky alchemists. This is so lame and boring," I thought.

A few weeks later I was bored and tried watching it again. After watching more than 10 minutes of it, I started to get interested. Really interested, actually, by the end of the first episode. "Huh, this has some sort of depth, I guess," I thought. "Rose isn't forming a romantic relationship with Ed. I think that bodes well." IT WAS A NIGHT OF DESTINY.

By the end of episode 2 I was hooked, specifically when Ed tells Rose to "Stand up and walk. You have legs." Then I knew it was something special, you know? I was so happy when that line came back later on, it's one of the better ones, I think.

Episode 3 with Bratja = hook, line, and sinker. I was there on out doomed. I downloaded the manga and read up through the Nina chapter, where I proceeded to be absolutely creeped the fuck out. I sort of regret not watching episode 7 before that, though, because it was a hell of a lot more emotional there.

This is way too long. D:

Oh, yeah, and I was intrigued by Roy in the OP. I thought he was going to be evil, HAHAHAHAHA. He looked very intimidating. I actually thought this: "Will he and Edward have MANSEXY MOMENTS?!" Oh god. Moron. Moron moron moron. I am ashamed to have been me 9 months ago.

It's so weird looking back and remembering not knowing who the hell anyone was. Oh man.
