My initial reaction:

1.) Okay. Seriously, the directors were morons for that first scene. Ed sounds terrible there. But that's a given.

2.) ...It's okay to change some lines, but they changed a lot of little things...and Al actually called Ed by name. O.o

3.) "Rose" sounds like she's 25.

4.) Cornello actually has a good voice, as does Lust.

5.) Present!Ed's voice is awesome. You can tell that Vic really loves this series. ^_^

6.) See, this is why it is good to cast actors of the correct age. Al's voice is ADORABLE.

7.) What the HELL was that mess job at the end!?!?

Overall, I think that it was a good premiere. I'm just a really picky fan.

Discuss, discuss.

Al's voice is wonderful. Ed's voice isn't quite Paku Romi's, but I like the acting more, even if I don't prefer the voice. Rose's voice, well, I like that actually. It makes me see her for the woman she becomes later in the series.

One thing that REALLY bothered me "Get too close to the sun and you'll get burned" - the original said something about one's wings burning, right? Didn't it? I just always thought that sounded so many miles better.

By mess job, I hope you mean the preview for the next episode? ROFLMAO. Damn, but that was a big blunder!

I actually wasn't paying attention to the preview...I was typing. ;) I meant that opening/ending/opening fuckup. As for the sun line...I think it was just the usual "get too close to the sun and you'll just get burned"...but i hated how they added in the thing about cornello >( ruined the initial effect. I didn't mention it cause I didn't want to sound too picky. ._. But damn...Al called Ed...edward. O.o he just doesnt DO that.

Oh god, yes! I loved his voice so much. ♥

I'm pretty apprehensive for Envy's voice though :/ I hope they do okay.

I hated the dialogue at the end when Ed rips his coat to reveal his arm. Oh god...
Ed's voice is.. alright.
Even so, no voice could ever replace Romi's

I'm so jealous ;-; I can't watch it here in Canada >O must wait till I go home.

But I remember number 2 being discussed already and I agree that having Al call his brother Ed sounds more natural in English... I know my little brother has never called me big sis or something... it's just not natural to the language.

And I agree about Lust from what I remember... she's done such a strange list of roles too o-O Like Tohru from Furuba :D is nice to have such versatility.

By mess job are your refering to the song/opening/pseudo ending sequence I heard about just now? XD
Ansem, seeker of the cock: Ed - Y sin razon olvidamospowercorrupts on November 6th, 2004 09:30 pm (UTC)
That was in the original, though, except that it used Melissa instead - well, it's only natural that they'd use the second op, since that's the only one they're using at all they decided.

I'm actually getting slightly used to it already, but Ed's voice just sounds too old for me. Still, overall not bad. Although the thing with the credits was really messed up.

The preview did suck. AND Al just ruined the next episode for all those kiddies by saying "counterfeited philosopher's stone." I mean, once he said that, I just popped out of my couch and went GAH! YOU SPOILERS! THEY'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO KNOW THAT YET

Eh, to be honest, I'm not wholeheartedly impressed with Al's voice. I mean, yeah, it's cute. But it's also dry. And just... blargh. Boring. Doesn't seem to have that much emotion behind it. I hope that changes throughout the series, but if his voice remains that way, it doesn't really make a good Al.

Ed's voice had lots of energy, and me likes that. He did lots of the parts well, and although some lines were changed, I think his acting was pretty impressive. But the beginning sequence sounded quite garbled. I mean... wtf was he saying when he transmuted his mom? >.>

Aside from the beginning, the end, and lots of the line changes, I don't think it was THAT bad. Eh, it could be worse.

THEY KILLED MELISSA.

I read the credits, the opening for the next episode is Kesenai Tsumi, or "Inedible Sin" as they call it.

Ready Steady Go is now the ending... with the GRAPHICS from Melissa.

THEY KILLED MELISSA I TELL YOU! IT WAS DEATH! x___x

...And Ed in the beginning, when he's 11, sounds exactly the same as when he was 15. Something's wrong with that, I say...

And the lines were edited and sound corny.

...Yea, I'm an open dub hater. Well, at least, I certainly don't like this very much.
Ansem, seeker of the cock: Ed - Y sin razon olvidamospowercorrupts on November 6th, 2004 09:33 pm (UTC)
Inedible sin? Rock on. Take that, Gluttony!

So, it had the Melissa graphics? THAT explains why it looked like an ed/op, but didn't go in the right time. Been too long since I saw it, though.

I really wish that Ed sounded younger, I'm going to have a *very* hard time adjusting to the idea of a masculine voice.

Al's voice rocks, but why's he so spunky? Where'd the attitude come from?!? I miss all my "nii-san"s

And x.x re: the ending song fiasco. My friend and I both died laughing when it started.
Katouka on November 6th, 2004 09:32 pm (UTC)
I think they did a really good job. I mean, I didn't like how they changed a few lines... but..oh well. It happens. x-x

Al's voice makes me want to hug him more. XD

Lust's voice was REALLY good. Pretty damn close to how I expected it to sound like before I watched the japanese eppys, and I was living off the manga. o.O

Ed's voice is good too. ^^ Vic did a good job. o_O I was planning on hunting him down he killed Ed's voice. o_O
Mizukorimizukori on November 6th, 2004 09:35 pm (UTC)
I was really impressed, having seen a lot of bad dubs. XD My only big issue was the beginning... it was a little more than scary to have little-Ed with a deep manly voice.

Ed sounds nothing like Paku Romi, but... god, he's really into it. And that's what matters in the end.

I *think* due to financial constraints (because you have to pay extra to broadcast music?) they only licensed one song, and Ready Steady was it. The hack job is due to lack of time, maybe?

But I agree, it sucks, and I just wish they'd show the whole usual Ready Steady opening.

But. Al's voice. I WANNA GIVE HIM THE BIGGEST BIGGEST HUG EVAH!!! <--- even though she saw the dub at Otakon and knew this already.

I know. I saw the dub at the Laruku concert as well. I'm IN LOVE with Al's voice. Aaron Dismuke has done a wonderful job portraying Alphonse. :D!!
