With modifications, Simplicity pattenr number 7274, the civil war uniform, works really well. It's what I'm using, and I know other people have used it. Also, this site has a lot of helpful information.

she means this one http://www.simplicity.com/assets/7274/7274.jpg and http://www.simplicity.com/assets/7274/7274fb.gif :)
The only difference in this pattern from a t shirt pattern is that the front is already flapped over ^^

Yup, that's what I meant, sorry I didn't post a link to it.

i made my uniform from a t-shirt pattern, all you need to do is basically break the costume down and try to imagine the shape *_*
which costume are you thinking of making?

the State Alchemist costume. You know, the thing that Roy, Hughes, Hawkeye, ect ect wear

ack sorry, i was asking which character ^^;;
i made my hawkeye uniform out of a t-shirt pattern. I basically divided the uniform top into three secions to symetrically line up everything so it is in proportion. I had to put a bust dart for in to get the tailor look, other than that it is straight fitting of the over fabric to get the waist.
If you are making the male unifor you can omit all i have just said on fitting ^^;;
The back, sleeve, collar is all very normal. The only challange is the front flap over. You can also get the ratio right by dividing the uniform into sections *_*
hope it helps and does not confuse you

this is my hawkeye costume to show you what i mean abou thet fitting X_x http://www.cosplaylab.com/cosplayers/costumes/details.asp?costumeid=50850 sometimes it is easier to look at already made costume to get the idea.

that's really good. X_x

see, i'm getting someone to make this for a friend, since this is way too complicated for me. and it'd be so much easier if i had a real pattern.

the person that is making this, doesn't know anything about anime. so she prefers a real pattern. guhh. >< a t-shirt thing isn't going to help her. ><

thank you ^___^
However, have she learned pattern making before? If so, then altering a simple T-shirt pattern into the uniform is not that hard :) It is just a few change with the front since one flaps over another.
As of now, i have not seen a pattern that is similar to the uniform ^_^;; but if you would like to ask about anything else please feel free to do so :)
